The problem with Evil races is not what you think

Not everyone likes everyone. It may be he just doesn't like you, not your race. I also gamed with a guy who would not eat with the group so gamers can have odd habits. FWIW I had two people married into the same family , to sisters in fact who would not game together as they got on each...

The problem with Evil races is not what you think

I don't live anywhere near an ivory tower but a mixed ethnicity and gender working/middle class area, Also have a mixed ethnic and gender gaming group as well . All of my adult gaming have been with mixed ethnicity, gender and/or cultural groups . That included gay people as well .So no Ivory...

The problem with Evil races is not what you think

I've noticed broadly that very few players care much about the world . There are exceptions , lore hounds, long term players in long running games that sort of thing. Mostly D&D is "Point me in the direction of the adventure." I've used a super generic world, described places as "Not Venice"...

The problem with Evil races is not what you think

The problem with D&D alignments is that Evil doesn't always mean raving monster. Its means selfish, power hungry, cruel. Unp;leasant traits Treating every encounter as they were mindless killers is not bad gaming at least for me. Its just boring. Sure Evil can Eeeyargh Bloodfeast demon...

D&D General Can we talk about best practices?

I agree. I've know people married into the same family , technically brothers in law who would not game together and of course politics and bigotry and just human nature get in the way. One's gaming group need not be one's friends but you need to be comfortable with being around one another...

D&D General Can we talk about best practices?

Good topic. I think there is only one essential best practice. Communicate with your players/GM like adults in an open, respectful manner. All else flows from this. The best practices campaign will have the players and GM on the same page regarding style, system, what topics are OK and...

D&D 5E Would handing your party 1,000 gp at character creation break your game?

A spyglass won't break the game. Its not that powerful. If the player's get super clever with it, good. Clever players, better game. Of course my players know if I gave them something like this, its a plot related item, an heirloom, a macguffin of some kind . It keeps them on their toes. As...

D&D 5E How would you make a musician who sold their soul at the crossroads?

Variant Human Warlock (or custom lineage) + Skill Expert+ Entertainer Background should do the trick.

Worlds of Design: When Nations Expand

My current game is all about war/borders do to collapse of a big nation and social issues, money lending and debt and roman style slavery. Expansion via conquest and mostly by money though that is in flux as my Napoleon analogue hates money lenders and slavery and cannot persuaded, threatened...

D&D 5E Wrestlers Join the D&D Live Fray!

Good to see. IME there is a pretty decent sized crossover with wrestling, not as big as martial arts back in the day but it was sizable. A lot of fans are D&D players I've met including myself (I was briefly a fan) . Jabroni , slang for loser associated with wrestling was a fixture with...

    D&D 5E Humans Only

Yes of course. I've run many games that are effectively Human only . I think it works better in many ways than the Mos Eisley Cantina meets Tolkien approach. I've also done games that are Human but with one non human from a human like heritage list (Half Elf, Dhampir , that kind of thing)

    Products That Overwhelmed You

I can't blame you. I've played every edition of the GURPS and 4e was a bit woah! for me. IMO no one unless they are experienced with GURPS already should start with the core books. I'd suggest if you ever have the time and inclination to try again start with GURPS lite and work up. Its free...

The Greatest TV Shows of All Time (Kinda): The Top 10

C.S.I. 15 seasons, no bad seasons, few bad episodes and justifiably very popular. Even old 2000's episodes hold up pretty well.

D&D 5E How would you make a character who uses a shield like Captain America?

As Toungez shows , Tulok the Bardbarian does a decent Cap build for 5e Be aware he likes to reflavor abilities to suit his builds needs but they are WOTC only and usually use the standard array. He's a very creative builds guy.

    Products That Overwhelmed You

I can't get my players to read lore period and its not just "The Internet attention span" some people think it is Players who are into the lore in any game, video or TTRPG are a small subset of all players. This includes history. In one group I was in decades ago , i was the only player with...

    Products That Overwhelmed You

It also makes it hard to get players into the adventuring . Most player groups like to play what are essentially vagabonds. Tekumel is well set for adventuring but the ties you noted don't sit well with players who prefer an anti authoritarian play style.
