oh man, we used this rule and boy did it slow things down. OTOH, it works fairly well for mini-less combats, as the dm can play out each persons actions... might use it if running 2e or earlier, grid-less.

Be sure to have at least one other front line melee character, two is even better, because a lot of your powers won't be very handy otherwise.

If it were all one massive tome with at least one other mm included... but also only if I were cut off from the monster builder. I print out all my monsters from there already, so there's a little less incentive.

How does the movement work exactly? I thought you count from one of the squares the large creature is occupying, and when you finish the move the creature can "pivot" or be placed in any legal way as long as the final square counted is occupied... if that's the real rule than large creatures...

except I could do what you just suggested, and print them out of the CB. Hacking up the AV was a lot easier than hand selecting, printing and then cutting up CB cards. Good second choice though.

The current critical hit system in dnd doesn't count? You get max damage, your weapon has a unique amount of extra dice to throw in on top of that, critical hit is a trigger for a bunch of stuff... to me it seems like it has a decent amount of meat on the bone.

I like your houserule - we do something similar. I wouldn't change the "legal" rules though (if I could), they are probably perfect for most groups as-is. Have you other house rules that trend toward more damage being dished out? Or is this just a one-off flavor/mechanics thing thats bugging you?
