No spell resistance vs. Orb spells? Why?

That's the beautiful thing about the wizard. He's got the whole toolkit instead of just a hammer, so he can avoid the problem of every problem looking like a nail. Can't hit the guy with touch spells? Target some other weakness. The orb spell is one tool in the kit.

    Waves of Exhaustion

A related question for the hive-mind: Can a barbarian enter a rage while fatigued? Exhausted? I seem to recall that he can't, and my local group seems to concur, but none of us can actually find that rule anwhere. (Given the way the PHB is organized, of course, it's probably in the Equipment...

    MIC: Ironward Diamond....Overpowered?

Didn't we have this argument back in 2004 when Races of Stone was published with its "Heavy Armor Optimization" feats?

    Anma mage

I don't believe the abilities gained by advancing in a prestige class can, by themselves, make you inelligible for the prestige class. This isn't a new issue - Dragon Disciple has had this problem forever where if you actually take the 10th level of the class you become a half-dragon, but...

    Character Creator's Block

They've pretty much covered it. You've knocked out most of the alternatives, by the way. You don't want to be a rogue, tank, arcanist, or nature type. You've really only left archer, monk and cleric. Maybe you should shoot for Shadowbane Stalker (Complete Adventurer). It's a pretty...

PrC’s, one at a time or for dipping?

I don't see a lot of benefit to limiting it that way. I've played characters with no prestige classes, and I've played characters with several. What makes that decision is whether or not it fits with how I want the character to develop. Such a rule also hurts the development of a...

    A good Archer build?

Wood elf fighter 18/order of the bow initiate 2. Str 22 (8 point buy, +4 belt, level 4 bump) Dex 30 (10 point buy, +6 gloves, level 8-20 bumps, +2 book) Con 18 (6 point buy, +6 amulet) Int 8 (2 point buy) Wis 10 (2 point buy) Cha 8 (0 point buy) Feats: 1 Point Blank Shot F1 Rapid Shot F2...

    The one responsible for defense.

First things first - have a talk with your spellcasters. Buffing and debuffing are incredibly important for spellcasters at all levels. At lower levels, perhaps the most efficient way to accomplish this is arcane debuffing (color spray, grease, ray of enfeeblement and glitterdust are...

Whats a reasonable AC at 10th level?

AC 30 is pretty good, but not out of line for a 10th level character devoting significant resources to defense. Thinking about my stable of currently played characters, it's about in line.

    Help me build a tank

The key feature of a tank, other than being stout defensively, is to have enough offense or battlefield control ability that the opposition can't just ignore you. If you're AC 70 with 250 hp and hit for 1d8+3, while your buddy is AC 15 with 70 hp and hits for 6d6+20, they're just going to...

Sleight of Hand on Spell Component Pouches

I'd never allow this during combat. There rules in the grappling section that lets you do this, but it properly sets the bar very high. The idea that any 1st level rogue with who can roll a 13 or so on a d20 can negate even the highest level spellcaster's primary class ability is really just...

    Ice Castle from Frostburn

Slightly off topic, but how do people rule this: "A creature or object brought into being or transported to your location by a conjuration spell cannot appear inside another creature or object, nor can it appear floating in an empty space. It must arrive in an open location on a surface capable...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Monk 3.5

Well, if you plan on playing to higher levels, you could go: Monk 8/sorcerer 2/ dragon disciple 10. The only real problem with this build is that it's a delayed gratification build. You need to take all your monk levels first, due to multiclassing restrictions.

    Oversize Two-Weapon Fighting

    1) Power Attack. 2) Double dipping on weapon specific feats without using a double weapon. 3) Specific class or prestige class needs (Pious Templar or Favored Soul, for example). 4) Using common weapons in campaigns where finding a magic double-bladed sword or the like might be a problem. 5)...

    protection from True Seeing?

The name of the spell notwithstanding, Mind Blank should work. Mind Blank blocks divinations*, True Seeing is a divination**, ergo Mind Blank blocks True Seeing. *Which gather information (unlike, for example, Unluck). **Which gathers informaiton (unlike, for example, Unluck).

    here i go again :P

The best archer, from the point of view of putting the most damage possible where ever you want it on the battlefield, is a wood-elf fighter. Straight fighter, at least to level 12 to get all the feats: Point Blank Precise Rapid Weapon Focus Weapon Specialization Gr. Weapon Focus Gr. Weapon...

Banning Fly, Improved Invisibility, Dimension Door, and Teleport

I agree that this is likely to cause some problems, both in mechanical terms as well as potential hard feelings on the part of the player whose character you've singled out for restriction. Would you be comfortable playing in a game where the DM told you that you (and only you) couldn't use...

Which choice is a better Rogue character build?

Well, rogue B looks like it's built either on 36 points (human) or 34 points (elf), so I'm not sure it's a fair comparison. I'm not going to compare exact builds here, but give some general advice. I prefer strength based rogues. I prefer strength based rogues for several reasons, and those...
