PCs vs. 1-mile long living airship!

Just some thoughts for additional cruelty... A creature a mile long is going to require an enormous amount of blood pressure to sustain its blood flow. It just doesn't seem reasonable for it to have one heart. Maybe, in true CRPG style, have the different NPCs the PCs have to fight through...

    [FR] Transforming into a Shade

One of my players really wants his character to turn into a Shade. The character got a book on the subject from no less than Larloch himself. So, I call upon the collective wisdom of ENworld... what should the process of turning into a Shade entail? From what I understand, becoming a Shade...

    Slave prices

Think about how much you would have to pay that kind of NPC expert for 3 years, and you should have a pretty decent ballpark figure. For example, a laborer makes roughly 1 sp/day. So... 365 sp a year... roughly around 100 gp.

ATTN Piazo: Dungeon mag and Dragon mag CD-roms & the Tasini v NY Times decision

Actually, IIRC, the Kenzer vs. WOTC case was because WOTC didn't have the rights to reprint KODT in Europe. And whoever mentioned that there wasn't a lawsuit is right. It was settled out of court.

The contests are OVER! Thanks very much to everyone for playing!

I'm running Forgotten Realms. They're currently in the Moonsea region and the Dales.

Wanna be an ENnies judge this year? Do ya, do ya? Not much time left!

I'm ascendance, lurker on the boards, chatter in the chatrooms. As a judge, I would bring an alternative viewpoint to the panel. While I did start playing D&D when I was very young with the Red Box set, I spent most of my high school and college years playing Earthdawn, Storyteller, and Amber...

Which D&D "cow" is least sacred?

What? Nobody's brought up AC? Whatever happened to hardcore advocates of armor as DR? I would say... AC. From what I hear, Conan's got a very good system that fits perfectly within the framework of D&D.

    Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage

I'm not a big believer in imposing harsh in-game requirements for seemingly powerful stuff. I think everything should be relatively balanced regardless of what you have to do to pick up the Feat. Still, I think I'll only have to deal with Weapon Familiars (seems fine) and the Taasuuden style...

    Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage

So... some friends of mine want to take various Technique feats from the Asaatthi book. They're actually playing characters from Kara Tur in the Realms. I have no problems with Taasuuden style, but Utaan Ite seems like a min-maxers dream, and I came down hard on Alyeeth Kassuk because said...

    Vow of Poverty: Power Analysis

In fact, when I was playing Temple of Elemental Evil the video game, I felt I was playing with exactly that sort of GM :D

Thay assaults Rashemen! (Updates from the game...)

You should keep in mind that "standing army" does not mean standing army in the sense we mean now, with soldiers constantly at the ready, and doing nothing other than training and drilling. A standing army, even in the Realms, would most likely perform some kind of economic activity. They...

What's the best map of a Dwarfhold you have ever seen?

I'll second MERP Moria. The new Decipher book doesn't even try to map out the whole place. What a bunch of pikers.

Today is a sad day: Fallout 3

I will shed no tears for Fallout 3. Knowing the financial state that Interplay is currently in, it would most likely have been rushed out the door in an unplayable state. In other words, it would have been the Star Control 3 or the MOO3 of the franchise.

AU Unfettered vs. AEG Swashbuckler -- compare and contrast please!

If there is a problem with power level, it'll show up after 15th level. I do think AU spellcasters lose out at higher levels, where their flexibility is offset by the flexibility of stock D&D spells like Polymorph, and no-save spells like Maze, and just plain abusive spells like Timestop. On...

This guy builds castles...Check it out.

For a $1.1 million dollar, you'd think the guy could have invested in a web designer. Still, nice castle.

AU Unfettered vs. AEG Swashbuckler -- compare and contrast please!

Actually, what Monte said NOT that the classes in AU are more powerful. What he said is that the classes are designed to have a flatter power curve. They are slightly more powerful at lower-to-mid levels, and then become less powerful at high levels. This is especially true of spellcasters...

Temple of Elemental Evil discussion thread (merged)

The funny thing is that I agree 100% with PVPOnline. All the bugs just add to the experience. Its like playing D&D with a killer DM with bad house rules who doesn't tell you about his house rules until its too late (i.e. your attempt to enchant that magic item to +3 fizzles, and you lose all...

[kinda OT] President Bush's spirit trapped in a pot

I wonder how much magical support George W. Bush has. Maybe that's what the Freemasons really do... That being said, it reminds me of a particular line from Sidereals: "Sometimes, he pietied the poor creature who had gotten herself named the Mouth of Peace. How different her job must be from...

    New Totem Animal Companions

I'm changing Totem Animal Companions to be more in line with Animal Companions in 3.5e. THE TOTEM WARRIOR’S ANIMAL COMPANION A Totem Warrior’s animal companion is different from a normal animal of its kind in many ways. The companion is treated as a magical beast, not an animal, for the...
