Here is to all the Lurkers on the boards!

I feel like I spend WAY too much time online. Add some posting time to that and all of a sudden that's all I'll be doing ;) :P Anyway ... I don't feel like I'm lurking ... I feel like I'm reserving my vastly important opinion for only vastly important topics ... yeah ... that's it ... sure ...

    Just break the door down!

The area beyond the doors could actually be a gate keyed to function only when the doors are properly opened (with the orb/key). If the characters try to batter down the doors, they actually cause the gate to become inoperable unless they jump through more of your carefully designed hoops...

    Chaos vs Order

Order is the logical and eventual realization of Chaos, meaning that given enought time all Chaos will eventually form an Order so strong that it will oppose all chaos Thus chaos eventually destroys itself, resolving into order, but perfect order is unchanged and unchanging, therefore the end of...

Help! I need novel ideas for starting a campaign.

Here is an idea that I was considering for my next campaign ... its kinda long term and complicated (potentially) but I call it "Powers That Be" Basically, given the DM's guidelines, each of the players would take the role of one or a number of gods and contribute in the creation of the entire...

Paladin, Core or Prc, the final word!

I voted to keep the paladin as is ... BUT I would LOVE to see "paladin" type classes for the other alignments as well ... which really makes it start to sound like a bunch of PrCs :) I'ld like to see PrCs as being more regional and core classes being more world wide so I guess I go back to...

    Grappling a water elelmental????

I'd think that there would be some form of underlying magical structure to an elemental that keeps it together on our plane ... which would explain how they can do things like Slam attacks. I would however give all elementals (even earth) a real bonus to graple checks ... like +4 or +6 ... since...

    Fumble House Rule

We also use a simular system with a relex save but we set the DC at 15 and how close one misses that save marks the level of severity. I do like the "Only the first attack can fumble" idea. I'm going to suggest that to our group. l8r) Joe2Old

    What is THAT?

I designed one adventure for 2e that I never used that was rather wicked. First was an undead (zombie) brass dragon with a (programmed) illusionn to look like a red dragon and deal fire breathing damage. At the time I think that a reasonably believable illusion could cause damage and I used...

Recognizing an enemy (goblin, ogre, etc.) on sight

I think that it all depends upon your campaign world. How common are the races? For instance, while a city that's been besieged by goblins for decades would know a goblin on sight, a city that's been rather isolationist may have no idea that the little orange buggers are dangerous. So it just...

Clerics and other spell casters as supporters

My current character is a Cleric of St. Cuthbert He met the party only a few game months ago and had a common goal with them. At THAT time, he supported the group only when absolutely required ... so it was like 30-45%. That resulted in one character death  So the quilt of that mixed with...

Alternate Magic System (Instead of spells per day.)

We played with something like this when 2e was out and really liked it ... this was before the Sorcerer though and dumped the idea with 3e since we were no longer familure enough with the system to start tinkering with it. Laziness has kept me from attempting anything similar with 3e [Cast...

What Does The Blackguard Do When...

I think its obvious that the Blackguard should kill his daughter ... not for any reason other than she was always a whining little snot anyway. Get the frell out of the room, slamming the door behind you. Gloat over the fact that the Epic Jerk Cleric is sucked into oblivion along with your...

What does the paladin do when...

Charge the sorcerer in an attempt to save the child. Why? Because the spell requires the blood of the child. If the child can be saved, the spell is ruined. Also, it could be argued that the greater good is served by saving the child vs. saving the mother, and while it is obvious that the...

Need help! How would YOU find an invisible tower?

Here's what I was originally thinking though I don't know if it would work well ... First narrow the search area significantly. Use gather information, local history, divination spells, and bardic knowledge to accomplish (many have suggested similar ideas here). Second, use fly spells and...
