D&D 5E Is it finally time..

Yeah, it's an extra step in combat and some players just dislike the idea of upkeep for equipment. Not something you'd want to introduce in D&D, which *never* had upkeep beyond arrows, perhaps. If you're really keen on having armour that might break, steal and adapt Dark Sun 4E's breakage rules...

D&D 5E More maneuvers at low level.

Getting all of them... sounds too much. I do think it's nice to have at least some variety (2-3 right out of the gate), but gaining and learning at least some new manoeuvres and a wider range of them is a decent reward for levelling up.

    D&D 5E Levels Above 10?

Yeah, if we already have a table in the book, we might as well have more interesting progressions than X/level. Something that's more like a flattening curve would be great and fit in well with the "bounded accuracy" plans they had.

D&D 5E What's Your Spell Slot Sweet Spot?

Voted for 10 here, though that's the upper limit to me. Something between 7-9 Vancian spells would be a decent number to manage, supplemented by a couple of re-useable spells (at-wills/encounters/recharging) and rituals for variety. Anything beyond that feels like it waters down magic. Magic...

D&D 5E On Healing and Broccoli

I think there's room for some compromise. Clerics should definitely be the best healers in D&D - I just don't think a complete embargo on healing is a good idea. Spreading some healing (at least some self-healing) can ease the load on the cleric. Not to mention that it can make healing...

D&D 5E I hate expertise dice as a universal mechanic.

Yeah, I see this a bit like wizards vs. sorcerers in 3/3.5E. They both use spells, but in a different manner. I think Expertise Dice as shared "martial" mechanic can work very well - but they need to be differentiated in how they interact with them. In this case, I think rogues really need to...

Dark Sun Style Themes for Eberron?

Yeah, it was something I wasn't sure about - but I thought putting it down as "striker" makes sense for one reason: Noir detectives never play well with others! :p Cheers, LT.

    D&D 4E Weem's 4e Companion Sheet (v2)

A bit late... but yes! :) I like it, it's pretty handy... but a couple of possible improvements: Needs a place for basic attacks (since they can differ from the at-wills; perhaps remove the personality/notes bits, move the section underneath it up to free up a spot for BAs?) Not essential...

    2 person party Advice

However, weem has made a companion sheet - you can find it here. It's not perfect (it lacks a place to note basic attacks), but it does the job. Cheers, LT.

    Essentials DM Screen

I wish they'd release it earlier (why not coinciding with Essentials?) - a fully up-to-date and completely errata'ed screen is overdue... and the cardstock they use is great. And I dig the new artwork - the only complaint about the original DM screen (apart from the lack of errata) is that the...

    Neverwinter

Actually, the license is "stuck" with Atari. Back then, in 2000, they licensed the D&D game rights to Atari... for 17 years. Somewhen (2005ish, I think) they managed to shave off two years, i.e. until 2015. Back then, BioWare was still independent, hence NWN. Now, BioWare is attached to EA...

Which D&D Campaign World did you enjoy most?

First place: Eberron. Hits all the right buttons for me - especially since the attitude is very "20th century" (the post-war situation, the noir and pulp influences), while still being recognisably fantasy and pre-industrial (though probably on the cusp of a paradigm shift). Especially since I...

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

In this interview, Emmert (one of the headhonchos of Cryptic) pretty much flat out states that they did things wrong with CO and STO. Also, his company profile says "his first foray into gaming was, of course, Dungeons & Dragons®". No idea whether its just PR or not... but if it's true, we might...

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

Well, I see rare items as a bridge between artefacts and normal items. The problem with artefacts, aside from the above-mentioned complexity, is that they have a time limit until they move on and that they are more-or-less NPCs with their motivations and their interaction with the party...

Essentials: Magic Item Rarity Explained, it's actually good!

That the changes will probably be folded into the official errata and update document here? If the DM insists on a rules-as-printed and without errata game, this problem will have cropped up much earlier (since every new book assumes the use of updated rules). Cheers, LT.

    Neverwinter

I really, really want to like it, because I'm waiting for a 4E game for a long time (pretty much since 4E's release). Invoking the awesomeness of Neverwinter is always nice, I do love the FR as (computer) game backdrop. But Cryptic Studios? The last big meh (Star Trek Online) tells me I should...

WOTC plastic minis deserve to be in metal!

On the other hand, the soft plastic makes the WotC miniatures stupendously hard to damage - I think one of the reasons for that is the original use as easy-to-play tabletop game with boosters with relatively simple (and cheap) packaging. It's basically like this: DDM: Terrible detail, but you...

Dark Sun Style Themes for Eberron?

I thought the same thing (and I'm on the 4e General board, somebody had similar thoughts)! :D Since the themes are fairly complex, I don't see the absolute need for 20 themes, especially since some niches are already occupied by existing Paragon Paths. As a rough draft, I would suggest the...

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

In other news: it's confirmed and going to be developed by... Cryptic Studios. And it's going to be what Cryptic calls an OMG (Online Multiplayer Game) - allegedly playable as single-player as well, but it's supposed to be easier/more fun as multiplayer. Sounds a bit like Guild Wars...
