    Goblin Picador

Please remember that we are not working from a full stat write-up of the Picador here. We're working from the RPG side of a D&D Minis stat card, and anyone who has looked at the RPG side of one of the 3.5 cards knows that they are nothing close to a complete stat block for the creature. I don't...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

But that's just the thing - "medium" armor IS in the game. It just doesn't exist as a mechanical category, which are arbitrary breakdowns anyway. If what you're looking for is a reason to wear chainmail over plate, well, for all we know it exists, and we can't see it until we see class...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

But that's not what has happened here. Several of the "meaningless" choices are still in the rules; you can wear chain and scale and hide armor in 4e. All that has happened is a bit of streamlining.

D&D 1E 1E Fiend Folio monsters in 4E Monster Manual!

Did the revision clean it up a lot? I had the original one from early 3.0 and it was so completely riddled with errors I swore off buying from that publisher entirely.

Confirmed: Magic items and summoned monster stats in PHB

This assumes that summons will work like they do in 3.0/3.5 where the lists are dominated by different animals. I'm not sure we have any reason to believe that will be true in 4th edition; personally I would expect a fair amount of the MM (more than one or two pages, anyway) to be devoted to...

D&D 4E Should terrain be move vulnerable to damage in 4E?

Having to spend time worrying about and figuring out the effects of area effects on terrain, etc., would seem to be at odds with the stated goal of making combats go faster.

D&D 4E Going/Not Going to 4E which edition did you start with?

Started in 1982 with the Basic Set (the Keep on the Borderlands one, not the Bargle one.) Have played 1e, 2e, 2e with Skills and Powers ( )3e, 3.5e, and I will be switching to 4e. I may not switch immediately depending on how easily I feel I can convert however much I have left to play of...

Dragon 364 News at Gleemax [merged]

Almost certainly, since it mentions that it will build on their information in the Monster Manual, and we know they're in the 4e MM... and not in the 3.5e one. ;)

    Spell-less Ranger confirmed by Mearls

You apparently have EXTRAORDINARILY different players than I do.

Templates: anyone want to take a guess?

Reread the preview. The Vampire Vizier miniature is a creature that has had the Vampire Lord template applied to it.

D&D 1E 1E Fiend Folio monsters in 4E Monster Manual!

I am pretty sure the algoid stayed around as the vine horror in 3e.

Game rules are not the physics of the game world

Maybe Superman doesn't die of cancer, but I think Captain Marvel (not the DC Shazam guy, the Marvel Comics one) did. My recollection is that he definitely falls into the "heroic" category based on his powers and such. Clearly there is literary precedent for Heroic-with-a-capital-H beings dying...

    Monster Manual: How Much Cut?

We have no reason to believe that dragons have 12 different age categories anymore, do we?

Game rules are not the physics of the game world

Are all accidental deaths outside the realm of possibility, or is it just the ones for which we have abstract rules systems already? Could he die from a heart attack or stroke? Could he choke to death on a fig? Surely he could drown, we have rules for that. Old age? Autoerotic asphyxiation...

Game rules are not the physics of the game world

I probably am somewhere in the middle when it comes to this argument, but I find the logic here baffling. Saying that "because sometimes people die falling off of horses, my character would clearly avoid riding horses" to me is an awful lot like saying "because sometimes people die riding in...

    Races of YOUR World

I've been toying around with a sort of 'reverse colonization' sort of idea, where the PC races are happily living in a New World type area and some technologically superior ones come sailing across the ocean and start colonizing their area. I'm not 100% sure where I want to set things like the...

    JollyDoc's Savage Tide-Updated 10/8!

His BAB doesn't take any hit from becoming undead, because he doesn't have any 'monster' HD. He just has a low BAB because of the levels of rogue and aristocrat. He's just not a terribly well-built character. I suspect, in any case, if your group isn't cutting-edge-optimized like JollyDoc's...

Game rules are not the physics of the game world

I don't think he literally meant physics, as in what you learned in physics class, and I feel like I see a lot of people making that assumption in the threads on this topic. When he says "physics of the game world" I think he is talking about how things work in the game world in a more...

    WotC_Rodney...Chris Perkins...a black dragon...a playtest

A single CR 4 is not a solo fight for 7 4th level characters in 3e. Depending on the monster a group like that could handle a CR 7 or 8, even some CR 9s, albeit with casualties. I think any conclusion that a large black dragon is the equivalent of CR 4 in the new rules is more than a little flawed.
