    Maximizing Dispel Checks

Ghalleon: The feats you mention don't raise caster level, they raise DC, and the last feat you pasted specifically says so :) Try raising caster level with stuff for abjuration or dispell only. I've been trying to raisse caster level for abjuration for fun to boost the spellresistance spell...

    Whirlwind Attack Questions

Your argument against using WA combined with a special full round action would be equally valid against using a normal full attack action combined with a special full round action (charge -> full attack) - but that is the entire purpose of the feat. it would seem, that pounce makes a special...

D&D 3E/3.5 Do allies block ranged attacks in 3.5?

:) indeed! I've been using point blank shot, precise shot and coordinated shot with my ray using sorcerer for years, because +8 AC is the most common situation (without precise shot and coordinated shot), which even with touch AC is problematic once in a while. I still remember the akward...

D&D 3E/3.5 Do allies block ranged attacks in 3.5?

But the OPs original question was if allies can provide cover for opponents, which is clearly the case. As for the amount of cover, the ruling in this situation might be harsh. It could be argued however, that several lines of allies is a situation that is most resonably dealt with using the...

D&D 3E/3.5 Do allies block ranged attacks in 3.5?

Allies can provide cover. Otherwise the feat "Coordinated Shot" from Heroes of Battle would be meaningless. "Coordinated Shot" makes you avoid the AC bonus granted by cover behind your ally or allies. This feat has "Precise Shot" as a prerequisite, which makes the argument, that "Precise shot"...

Do you have any dice superstitions

We have quite a lot of dice-beliefs, only heathens would call it superstition ;) §1. There must be at least one new set of dice for each session. §2. Alll dice must submit to a dice-tournament in the hour leading up to the session. §3. All dice that perfomed poorly, or performed well but...

    Bilogical Tree of D&D creatures

Technically a 'Tree' is a non-rooted Graph of Operational Taxonomic untis (OTUs), it may appear rooted, but until an Outgroup is assigned, it is not. In cladistics, a rooted OTU-graph would more commonly be refered to as a Phylogeny:)

    Help! Defense vs Mindflayers

I think you are a little harsh on his DM here. I would say that the DM can do whatever he feels is good for his campaign and the gaming experience of his players. Feeling obliged to comment whenever he his improvising would be ridiculous: "by the way, something is happening right now, but I...

    Wall of Ice?

Does the Reflex save to 'disrupt the spell' replace the old Reflex save to 'avoid getting trapped'? For instance: if I try to trap someone in a hemisphere, do they get both the 'disruption' save and the 'escape' save?

    So he calls himself "Dragonslayer"...

How about rewarding your PC for taking an interest in his character? If I had killed a Dragon, no matter which, I would be proud of it. Your Player seems to be able to roleplay his characters pride and have actually thought up a name to fit the occasion. Thats called roleplaying and should not...

    Telekinesis - Disarm & Grapple

Thanks for the replies :) I agree that the casters size shouldn't count, the only downside is that in a world of giants they would never use this option of the spell against each other and in a fey-world it would be extremely potent. I'm not totally convined that it is impossible for the...

    Telekinesis - Disarm & Grapple

1: Are you considered unarmed (-4 to disarm) when using telekinesis to disarm? 2: If you want the item in your hand, and thus have to attack unarmed, is there still the -4 penalty even though you are using telekinesis? 3: When using telekinesis for grapple do you use the casters size modifier...

Unearthed Arcana Variant Rules - Previews and Questions

Could someone please tell me the spells known for a cleric with spontaneous casting? I know this has been asked and answered previously in this thread, but the answer was: "just like a sorceror + 2 spells/ level due to domains." But this doesn't really fit since the spell progression for...

    Grappling more than one?

This became a topic of discussion last session: Can you ever grapple more than one? If for instance you are several size categories larger than your opponent can you then grab an opponent in one hand and later another opponent in the other hand?

    Dragon #311 Summary

Thanks for the info! Could you elaborate a little bit on the Arcane ancestry? Is it just one bloodline feat you need to take at first level to gain all the spells or is there more to it? Also: you mention specific feats assigned to the ancestor type, are they optional or do you have to take...

Medical Update - T Cell Count

I'm very sorry to hear that, hang in there, and try to keep your spirits up. As long as you can see the beauty of this world I'm sure that it will support you through these dark times. These days even with a T4-cell count of 0 you would still be able to fight back, and the already good medical...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] scorching ray?

Yes, a Polar Ray has higher volatility, but the distribution of the damage rolls shouldn't matter in this context as increased or decreased volatility can be an advantage or disadvantage, all depending on the situation.

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] scorching ray?

But given only one target you want to kill via damage, scorching ray seems to be the best choice, or very close for characters level 3 to Epic. That makes single target damage spell selection easy for Sorcerers. So, Scorching Ray competes very well with Magic Missile, Melfs Acid Arrow, various...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] scorching ray?

Yes, even at caster level 25 polar Ray ( avg. 89) doesn't catch up to an empowered maximized Scorching Ray (avg 93). Polar Ray is only worth it at Epic levels, compared to Scorching Ray, and then only if you use metamagic to boost Polar Ray.

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] scorching ray?

I'm only comparing Ranged touch spells here. The probability of hitting is the same for all the spells, but may vary alot depending on attack bonus for the caster and touch AC for the target. It would seem appropiate to compare the only the invariant factors i.e. damage when hit.
