Melee characters and Primary Attack Stats

Curiously, the cleric and the paladin are, to my reckoning, the only classes that don't require a decision at creation as to which "style" they want (1H/2H, Artful/Brutal, etc). I wonder if there is a correlation there. By the way, what the hell is MAD? I see people on the board using it all...

Melee characters and Primary Attack Stats

Of the eight classes in the PHB 1, six of them have attack powers that make regular use of melee weapons (Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Warlord). All except the rogue use STR at their primary stat for making melee attacks (Though the paladin, strangely, has some weapon attacks that...

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

I say, ol' boy, well done! Good show! Good Show!

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

I love how 4e makes certain races just better at certain classes, but with so many races and classes, and only six ability scores to assign as primary stats, they were bound to get some unintended overlap. One funny consequences is that while elves have always been the "woodsy and nature-y"...

PHB2 general feats review (heroic tier)

A few clarifications: I don't have the PHB 2 with me, so if I'm mistaken on anything, I apoligize in advance. Coordinated Explosion works great for those bursts and blasts that included allies, but don't necessarily TARGET allies. Those for which target line will reads "Each enemy in...

    Defeating peristent rituals?

Update: They used Arcana to sense the presence of the Eye, but failed in their perception checks to see it, so they don't know what it is. It looks like the alarm is going to go off and they will have a fight on their hands, which is pretty much what I wanted. (It's a Play-by-post game, so...

    Defeating peristent rituals?

Dispel magic technically only works against Zones and Conjurations now. I was thinking about treating it like a Warder Trap. Problem is, The DMG is pretty low on purely magical traps. They can apparently be defeated by a Thievery or an Arcana check, though I'm having a hard time imagining...

    Defeating peristent rituals?

Is there a "Dispel Magic" type of effect that works on rituals? I ask because My PCs are going to sneak up on an enemy camp that has an Eye of Alarm watching over it, and I'd like to know if there's any way they can defeat it magically. I can't find anything about it in the PHB.

    ... Bow Mastery.. for free?

Melee mastery feats have stat prereqs because each melee weapon class has a stat associated with it, as listed in the fighter section of the PHB. Because fighters don't often use bows, bows are left off of this list. Giving the Bow mastery feat a dex prereq could also work against a potential...

    Sorceror builds?

Sorcerer's have charisma as their primary stat. Depending on the build you go with, your secondary stat could be either Strength (for Dragon-sorcerers) or Dexterity (for Chaos-sorcerers).

    Magic Item Wish List????

If you're an astute DM, you shouldn't even need a wish list from your players. Just look at the PCs builds, and their choice of weapons, feats, and powers, and talk to your players about what they think is "cool" about their characters (most players will be more than happy to do so without...

    Magic Item Wish List????

If you pay attention to your PC's builds, you shouldn't need a wishlist. It's pretty easy to figure out the type of magic items they will want/need by observing their class, feat selection, etc.

    Fighters and Alchemy

I've never heard of Cerberus but it sounds hilarious.

    Fighters and Alchemy

It seems that the fighter's combat challenge allows him to mark targets with any attack, including non-fighter attacks. I know dragonborn breath has been discussed, but it looks like a fighter-alchemist, using area attacks not restricted to 1/encounter, could be a pretty diesel marking machine...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

I just read what Twilsemail wrote about Shield bash, and if what he said is true, he is 100% correct.

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Battlerager vigor only takes affect after you take damage, so technically it doesn't reduce damage, it reduces the damage of future attacks, a not unimportant distinction. The PHB fighter class feature is effectively a +1 to EVERY ATTACK YOU WILL EVER MAKE. This is very, very good, as...

    Half Orcs

I am the opposite. I hate characters that are deliberately anti-stereotype. I had a new player in one of my campaigns once actually as me if it was okay if he played a dwarf fighter, for fear that it was too common. I told him that it was entirely appropriate. Too many players nowadays think...

    Double Weapons fixed?

I see the massive cheese for tempest fighters, but I've heard a lot about having a weapon be both a light blade and heavy blade that does a d8 being completely broken, but I'm not seeing it. Is it something more complicated than allowing a rogue to exploit Heavy Blade opportunity and a fighter...

    Double Weapons fixed?

I see your point. One wonders how something so blatant got past QA. Perhaps Adventurer's Vault was developed a long time before Martial Power. TWF rangers don't benefit as much from double weapons since they can use two one-handed weapons anyway, though you do give them a bonus to AC they...

    Double Weapons fixed?

Let me explain: There is an article on WOTC for D&D insiders about the Shadar-kai. Since the SK like wicked weapons, the present mastery of the spiked chain as a multiclass path that any martial character can take. Here is the initial feat. Spiked Chain Mastery Prerequisites: Dex 13, any...
