    Thoughts on Kalamar

Well, everyone gets "sparked" by something different. The one thing I remember most when I first read over the pre-3e version was Dynaj (reproduced here for your benefit). :) City-State of Dynaj Population: 4,000 humans of primarily Dejy blood. At a Glance: Humanoids walk the streets...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

Nice to hear! I believe the Living Kalamar events at Origins this weekend were at about 150% capacity, with lots of new players, so that always makes me happy too! :)

    Hackmaster?

Good story! :) Just got back from Origins, so I wanted to mention that our "Learn to Hack" events at Origins and GenCon are always full and overflowing. It's a good opportunity to create a character for some hacking (at that session or a later event), and HM PHBs are provided for all!

Does your setting have Magic Shops

No magic item shops in the Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign setting, so I voted no. You may find vendors who stock supposedly magical herbs, love potions, etc just like on Earth, but no stock magic item shops.

    Has D&D become too...D&Dish?

Interesting theory, but I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "style," unless you mean the "feel" you get from reading the books. Or do you mean does everyone at Wizards use all the rules/sourcebooks/etc every time they play? As an aside, however, I don't think you can presume any of that...

    Looking for a setting...

Oh, Nightfall.... I'm tempted to pimp Kalamar now, just for you. ;) I can't pimp Aces & Eights, much as I'd like to, since it's got no supernatural stuff whatsoever.

    Thoughts on Kalamar

Actually, there is a pronunciation guide in the back of the Atlas. :) I hear the "I don't like the names" argument every so often among gamers that have glanced at the setting, but I just can't agree with it. Let's think about Earth. Unless you're already familiar with the language, do you...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

Hmmm.... Maybe I should work up some "hooks". How's this one? Imagine an empire where humans rule, oppressed dwarven slaves struggle under man’s tyranny, and elves wage losing guerilla wars from the forests. This is the Vast - the Kalamaran Empire. But time weighs heavily upon all, and the...

    Hackmaster?

Keep in mind that, just like any game, you can always ignore rules that might be too heavy for a light game. The Honor system, critical hits, etc could all be ignored for a less rules-intensive game.

Savage woodland elves - I need ideas

Well, it's not free, but I have to pimp Friend and Foe: the Elves and Bugbears of Tellene. Incredibly detailed cultural info for the elven subraces, that you could use for any setting. Here's two short samples from the wood elves: Tactics and Strategy "Never fight on your enemies' terms." -...

    Fey!

It was previously updated in Dangerous Denizens: the Monsters of Tellene (2003) as well. The fey from Dangerous Denizers are the: Brownie Fairy, Urban Fairy, Woodland Farisee Leprechaun Sileni Vila

Knights of the Dinner Table #115 - ToC preview

KoDT issue #115 should be arriving in stores next week (though it might be sooner or later depending on each store's distributor). Here's a preview of the table of contents: DEPARTMENTS Cries from the Attic - editorial - p4 Table Talk – letters from our readers - p7 Gaming Report – Industry...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

Well, I could have done it again, I suppose, but you guys seemed to have things pretty well in hand here. ;) Also, got swamped with work so I haven't been able to peruse the boards as often as I'd like.

    By the Sword question

The "unbalanced" problems you may have heard of are certain HackMaster-specific tournament-sanctioned rules for governing the HackMaster Association. Doesn't apply on the d20 side. So far all the d20 feedback I've heard has been pretty positive, overall.

    Looking for a unique setting

Well, many Greyhawk players have transferred over to the lands of Tellene. Maybe it's the realistic map. :) But don't forget - hobgoblin kingdoms, dwarven slave uprisings, and so on...

    Hackmaster?

The Colonel's comments sum things up pretty well. :) You can find some basic downloads here, and feel free to stop by the HackMaster forums.
