    D&D 4E 4E sword and sorcery..

It's not about need...it's about the OP mentioning that he wanted clerics. Bard can work but many of their powers are pretty flashy too...but as leaders go, they are a decent choice. DC

    D&D 4E 4E sword and sorcery..

This is a place where RP penalties come in handy. They don't gimp the character / player system-wise but they create a sense of story. Ideas that link in with the feel include: Wizard / Warlock = must have familiar and this familiar is not an ally but a servant / spy of a demonic /...

    D&D 4E 4E sword and sorcery..

I don't think ditching other PSs is the answer...the focus could be more on concept. All the martial classes work: They are pure training. -- Warlock works well because this is the "mortals knowing things they shouldn't" -- Shaman has a strong presence in many low magic concepts because the...

    Ardent Class: Predictions?

I'm wondering if we are going to see either: a) two strikers - monk and soulknife or b) soulknife absorbed into psychic warrior to give it more of a unique feel. This would work well with my above prediction that psychic warrior (psionic defender) will emphasize something like metacreative...

Items with always active properties held in off-hand with shield

Can you cite for this? Exactly...thank you for providing the specific example of how screwed up this ruling is. DC

Items with always active properties held in off-hand with shield

No...I'm saying that the reason given for the difference was not a reason that defined there being a difference. Saying that item x has different enchantments than item y does not define a difference beyond item x and item y...it showcases a difference between the specifics not the categories...

    Ardent Class: Predictions?

Shadow power source isn't in this book...so far it is looking like D&DI content only...maybe out in PH4. I'm guessing that that is psychic warrior or a new divine class that we haven't seen before. The githzerai is pretty obviously a monk. DC

Items with always active properties held in off-hand with shield

This is a specious argument. Each implement type (including weapons) has it's own list. Saying that weapons have different enchantments doesn't make them any different from any other implement. If one permits implements to grant passive benefits (like +1 to defenses) when held but unusable one...

Items with always active properties held in off-hand with shield

These ideas contradict each other (as is often the case with FAQ items). Implements are "weapons" for casters. If AV is correct, then the FAQ is not. If the FAQ is correct then AV is not. It raises the question of why a magical dagger held along with the light shield with a sword and board...

    Ardent Class: Predictions?

Variation is hard to balance...that said, Divine has many powers that don't deal damage (for the cleric) but instead do only status effects or penalties, which I think is a move in the direction you're referring to. Also--given that at the end of the day a combat power is designed to bring...

    Ardent Class: Predictions?

It's already been revealed (though I can't find where now...the psion article?) that all the psionic classes save the monk use the PP mechanic and augmentation. With this in mind, I predict that... -- The class as a whole will feel very different from the 3.5 ardent because in the case of the...

    Dagger Damage

I'm even more angry that you can kill someone with an ordinary whip just as quickly as with a dagger or your fist.... :) this falls into the "it needs to be simple to be a game" terrain. trained fists and skilled daggers both do damage but they do different types of damage. a fist to the arm...

Items with always active properties held in off-hand with shield

As I understand it, you only gain the benefit of an item when it is properly equipped. This means you can't gain the benefit of a sword while it is sheathed nor or a shield when it is slung across your back. In the case of any weapon or implement, I would only allow the property to function if...

Removing Build Restrictions when Selecting Powers

Also, some builds aren't just builds: They are core concepts. A storm soul sorcerer and chaos soul sorcerer should "feel" different when they cast storm or wild spells. Similarly, I don't think that 4e needs more homogeneity. When you make choices, you should gain benefits. When you play all...

    Con-Int Tieflings

It basically says, "if you play infernlock, play a tiefling or you'll suck in all ways imaginable" which will lead to typecasting amongst many players. Also, it don't know how well it fits in with the backstory of the tieflings: they bound themselves with devils...not demons. Devils are clevery...

    Undead and Vulnerabilities

It also only very rarely has any conditions or riders. Fire commonly does ongoing damage. Cold slows or immobilizes, psychic dominates, dazes, etc, thunder slides or pushes, but radiant generally just does it's thing. While I admit that a radiant heavy group will mow through an undead heavy...

    Sorcerous Blade Channelling

yeah...i've made a character with this build... the CB does not give the weapon bonus (for the obvious reason that there is nothing in anything written anywhere that even remotely implies or suggests that it should gain the weapon proficiency bonus). it gives the dual implement bonus to...

    Declaring Immediate Interrupts

I agree with you completely. The only thing in the OP example that would possibly be slowing down the game is the DM's resistance. Also, I think that these powers **are** balanced with the assumption that they will be used as interrupts...that's why they're interrupts. Disruptive Strike is...

Multi-attack actions = one attack or three?

There is no "has to" in this. For most solos, a -2 and the possibility of some extra damage is a deterrent but not a deal breaker. Also, I don't see how triggering a mark makes the game less fun for anyone? If anything, I find the ease with which it the interpretation you suggest enables a...

    Sorcerous Blade Channelling

Sorcerous Blade Channelling 1) Does the dagger's proficiency bonus count towards the melee attack? Any sorcerer power with the weapon keyword would gain the dagger's proficiency bonus. No other sorcerer powers ould gain this bonus. Note, that this is the case without the feat. Note also that no...
