The way i picture it is, the PCs may see something in the distance.......the spot check is simply to see whether the PCs are keen-eyed enough to see that it is a town.

Holy is better because a LOT of enemies are evil, and your bow is good-aligned, bypassing the DR of most fiends.

Its an epic feat, and you dont need it if you want to be a ranger....arrowmind lets you fire a bow in melee without provoking AoOs and you threaten all squares adjacent to you.

Slight problem : level 5 substituion level specifically gives you ranged smite 2/day(IIRC). A DM may house rule it otherwise though.

Elf paladin substition levels also force you to use ranged smite instead of melee smite.

Deepwood sniper is 3.0 though, and it has a problem with the % cover rules, which no longer exist. I would recommend using the targetter class from dragon 310, it has a class abiltiy letting you use dex for damage instead of str, but only if the target is susceptible to critical hits.

I thought you only get an additional +2 LA for the unicorn if you are a paladin and taking it as your special mount? Edit : Here is wizard's reply : I asked, specifically, whether a 20th level paladin with a 12 HD unicorn cohort with +6 LA would have 20 HD after factoring in the paladin...
