D&D 4E From the 4e MM preview: Astraljamming?!

To be fair, the word 'helmsman' has meant 'the guy who steers a ship' long before Spelljammer (or role-playing, or the United States) ever existed.

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

I don't have my copy of the HERO rulebook here at work, so I can't verify whether or not it is described as an optional rule, or helpful advice to the GM... not sure there's much of a difference in any case. HERO has a very specific way of building characters/monsters/NPCs/villians/etc, so that...

Healing Surges innate Blessed band aids

Or take a look at 'Die Hard'. John McClane (Bruce Willis) is the walking embodiment of the Healing Surge in action.

    D&D 4E 4E: BBEG's Redemption?

Yep. Just as bad as if the BBEG gets hit by a Save or Die spell in the round one, and you flub the roll.

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

It's an optional rule, as Lizard mentioned in his post. If you want all the mooks to keep getting up every post phase-12 recovery, go ahead.

    What are Minions anyway?

Ever seen 'Kill Bill vol 1'? Think about the scene where The Bride (Uma Thurman) enters O-Ren Ishii's restaurant, and has a huge fight with the Crazy 88s. All of the Crazy 88s were minions, with the exception of Johnny Mo (their leader) and Gogo Yubari. The Bride cuts through the 88s like they...

Cleave: Give me room to work, my minions!

This whole 'bag of rats' thing has me boggled. Is there really a player out there who has tried this? And even more unbelievably, is there really a DM out there who let him? If one of my players came at me with this idea, there's an easy way to fix it. Face them with an opponent with Whirlwind...

    Dark Sun, 4th Edition

Maybe it's just my intense dislike of Thomas Baxa's artwork speaking, but I would not buy a new version of Dark Sun.

Here's a list of published settings. Which are good for the PoL style?

If you want a POL setting that can be used whole cloth for D&D, all you need to do is look at Earthdawn. In Earthdawn, civilization was forced to come to a screeching halt a few hundred years ago when armies of demonic Horrors from another dimension started breaking through into the world. Not...

I like 'Undershadow', but 'Underfell' could work too.

    Ideas for versatile condition markers

You can buy sheets of 2mm foam in loads of colors at any art or craft supply store (like Michaels), and each sheet is less than a buck or so. Get a big hole punch, or a pair of scissors, and you've got ready made tokens for marking.

    Fomorians article on DDI

If the drow didn't already have such extensive baggage, I'd love this option. However, with all of the spiders/Lolth/driders/Demonweb Pits stuff they'd have to jettison for this to work, I think you'd anger a lot more people than you'd make happy. As they are now, they just don't read as...

    Fomorians article on DDI

You are missing/misunderstanding one concept in your concern: The Underdark isn't separate from The World, like the Elemental Chaos or the Astral Sea are... it's just what lies beneath the ground of The World. It's part of the The World. (And thusly, a reflection of The World should/could...

    Fomorians article on DDI

And in terms of the new more mythic Feywild, in my opinion, there's way more to be interested in about the Feydark then there ever was in the Underdark that it is reflecting. I've always hated the Underdark, and most (if not all) of it's denizens. Drow? Lame. Derro? Lame. Kua-toa? Lame. OTOH...

    Mutants and Masterminds, edition differences

Here's another vote for the versatility of M&M2E. While it eventually morphed into a Golden Age Supers campaign, I started my campaign as a straight up WWII GI combat type game. The PCs were PL 4, and we could easily have gone awhile like that, but I had different plans for them.

    New Quickling

That episode gave me nightmares *for years*. Thanks for bringing it up... hopefully the heebie-jeebies will go away before I go to sleep tonight. :uhoh:

So, I'm thinking of shrinking my party....

I've also run this, with a few modifications. Much fun.

    D&D 4E 4e Playtest Characters

That's about normal for 3.5. Your standard first level fighter usually has about a +5 (+3 for a 16 Strength, +1 for BAB, and a +1 for Weapon Focus), and thats a conservative estimate.

    Design & Development: Quests

I dunno. Next thing you know they'll be suggesting we have a tape recorder on hand to play that scribbling/scratching sound you hear anytime an NPC in a computer game says 'Here, let me update your map for you'. I think handing out index cards with quests on them smacks too much of just trying...

    Tannhäuser: The RPG?

I've had a pretty good campaign using Mutants & Masterminds to run a fairly gritty World War II superhero game... I'd suggest that system for this as well.
