    Humans get what?

Since he says it won't become obvious until we've played quite a bit, I'm wondering if what makes this race really good is it's racial feats or feat synergies, rather than it's starting bonuses.

    Humans get what?

Compared to what? All the other races seem to have a pretty kick-ass set of racial abilities too. Dragonborn get a +1 attach when bloodied, add their Con modifier to their healing surge, some skill bonuses, and they can breathe fire (or acid or cold or lightning or poison). Eladrin are hard...

Are there too few known encounter powers?

On the other hand, you don't want the game to be totally Diabloed where 20th level is just like 1st, but with bigger numbers. I think the increasing number of encounter/daily/utility powers may be part of what makes gaining those levels feel like progress.

Are there too few known encounter powers?

Is that a bad thing? I think you should have to use your at-wills at least some of the time in pretty much every combat. You should probably be using them more than your encounter powers. I wouldn't want to go ten rounds of just using at wills, but in a ten round fight I wouldn't be upset if...

    D&D 4E 4E with a party of two?

They've said there will be rules for converting regular monsters into solos and elites. It seems like you could use those rules in reverse to convert a solo into an elite (which would be a level appropriate encounter for a 2 person party).

Are there too few known encounter powers?

I don't know how easy it's going to be to run out of options. Encounter and at-will powers aren't the only options. There's also the daily and utility powers. I'm actually more worried about characters not using their encounter powers as much as they could because they want to save them for a...

    Minion Fist Fights

I realize this discussion has been going on forever, but perhaps I can offer a new perspective. I teach some self defense stuff, so I've learned a bit about what it takes to stop a human attacker. There are essentially two ways to stop an assailant: physically incapacitating them (either...

    House Rules

Well, like I said, this stuff is more adapting the rules to the setting than changing the game. Getting rid of those interventionist deities is a fairly big change setting-wise. Some cleric powers (like healing utility powers and rituals) will probably get transfered over to the arcane classes.

    House Rules

As far as actual house rules go, the biggie is going to be no divine power source, just martial and arcane. The fact that this is easily doable is is actually one of the things that excites me most about the new edition. No more clerics! Arcane magic will be present, and quite common in some...

    House Rules

This may be more of a setting thing than a house rule, but I'm strongly considering combining the Feywild and the Shadowfell into a single "Other Realm" for my homebrew. The naturalistic Feywild as an alternate plane just doesn't mesh the local setting very well (it's high desert, and very wild...

Are there too few known encounter powers?

Thinking about it encounter powers in 4e are roughly the equivalent of a 4/day ability in 3e. 3e assumes 4 encounters per day, so in theory an encounter power would get used four times. Or to put it another way, that's about the same as the basic number of spells per spell level for a Wizard...

Are there too few known encounter powers?

Too many encounter powers and you end up not using the at-will powers much at all. In a 6 round fight, you could only end up using an at-will twice. Throw in a daily power and you'd only use an at-will once. From what I've read I'm guessing 6 rounds would be on the short side, but still...
