How would they even have gotten the actual credit card numbers stored? I would think they used some off-the-shelf e-commerce platform and those - by default - would not actually store whole credit card numbers. At least - that would be such an egregious practice, that any consultant they hired...

I imagine since the game is so widespread and generally settings agnostic that different tables can vary widely from one another. It's probably more disected and analyzed than other games too?

In 1e, magic-users were real glass cannons. At higher levels, it was very easy to disrupt a spell. All you have to do is land a hit and the spell slot would be lost. The AC would have any Dexterity bonus removed. The spell caster basically had to win initiative by the level of spell...

They can't get perfect balance due to the nature of the game. It's not a video game where they are the DM and have objective algorithms. They gotta please newbies, veterans, optimizers, rules lawyers, different table cultures, etc. Balance is a goal but not an attainable one.
