    Geisha, the (missing) Asian Bard

My step-mother and step-sister are originally from the Philippines. I know a little about some of the dancing customs of the Philippines, but I'm not sure those I'm familiar with would be useful for a character. I know that some of the dances involve variations of dancing around bamboo poles...

Ever had a piece of art inspire a character?

Looks like a bleached out Green Star Adept to me... Seriously, though. I had the Crystar action figures! Well, Moltar* anyway. *No relation to the director of Space Ghost Coast To Coast.

    The New Rules Cyclopedia

I agree with both Whizbang and Crothian. Yes, D&D can be expensive. Yes, there are alternatives. You can argue the pros and cons of each all day long and both will still be true. The gist of the thread seems to be lost somewhere along the way. I, like many others, loved the Rules Cyclopedia...

Ever had a piece of art inspire a character?

Yes, actually. Tulak, by Keith Parkinson I have no idea who the character Tulak is (I'm sure someone here will be glad to provide that information), but he stared at me all through the month of October last year from the Keith Parkinson calendar on my wall. I was so intrigued by Tulak that I...

    New Feat: Skill Finesse

Races of the Wild includes the Agile Athlete feat: Prerequisites: Climb 1 rank, Jump 1 rank Benefit: When making a Climb or Jump check, you use your Dexterity modifer for the check. No Dex requirement; Swim skill isn't included. Also, it's not considered a fighter feat. EDIT: Just in case...

Help me sell D&D to newbies!

The first thing that popped into my mind when I read the title of this thread was: pizza. Free food opens doors. You know, just like Hansel & Gretel.

    DM vs. PC's Question

The trick is to let the player get comfortable with new feats and special abilities. Regardless of your intent (and hopefully it's for everyone's fun and enjoyment), you don't want to beat up on a player who just got a new toy. Let them have some fun with it, get comfortable with it, learn to...

    UA: Your favorite variant?

My favorite variant rules are...everything in the first three chapters. :)

    Clerics with feats!

I think these are both available in the Player's Guide to Faerun if the Spell Compendium isn't readily available. Although, I'm not sure I know of any deity that offers both domains.

So, no Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, etc....

Illumians seem like something you might encounter on another world. An isolated race that might show up in an episode of Star Trek or something of that ilk. I don't think they work terribly well in a mixed crowd, but if you had them as the dominant (preferably, sole) race in a pocket dimension...

    Anthropomorphic Animals in Greyhawk

Happy about it or not, the Valley of the Mage is known for it's bizarre inhabitants and escaped experiments.

    I have some spare cash.

Yes, I should have warned you. Took me forever to do that bit with the links. They do have both magazines divided by year, of course, so it might be better to take a look at each year and see if any of the covers or blurbs catch your eye, then open individual issues in another tab or window...

    Gray elves in Greyhawk?

    I call them "Cary Elwes."

Glad to have been of help, Mr. Beef. I was just thinking that, instead of a subscription you might want to shop for some back issues at www.paizo.com. Like I mentioned before, I don't have a subscription to either magazine, but I buy a few issues of Dragon every year. You can check out the back...

    Geisha, the (missing) Asian Bard

There was a Kabuki Warrior prestige class in Dragon #298. It's possible it could be adapted as a build from your Geisha. Perhaps a multi-classed Geisha/Fighter could become a Kabuki Warrior, much like a Bard/Swashbuckler can become a Dread Pirate. If you go here...

    City Survivor!- Round 1

I don't even know half of these!!! Mostly, the ones I don't know are the ones getting all the votes.

    I have some spare cash.

I voted for Dragon because I rarely, if ever, use pre-made adventures. Dungeon, no matter how you turn it round, is essentially three adventures with another article or two for spice. Dragon on the other hand is a potpourri of gaming materials, background information, stories and so forth. I...
