Why would you want to "dance around" something like that? That's like poking a sleeping bear with a stick just to see when it'll bite your hand off. Mind you, the sleeping bear just gave you a cookie, yet you still want to poke at it. I don't know about publishing, but product line has a very...

    D&D 4E Rate your interest in 4e.

I've been losing interest in 4E pretty steadily as more info came out. There are certainly bits that I like, but it just doesn't, as a whole, appeal to me. I'll still buy the PHB, but I don't think it'll see much use. I voted.... 4.

    A Dance with Dragons - Pre-order?

He seems like a very humble guy and does attend a lot of conventions, so I agree that he's very aware and appreciative of his fans. Only he can say why it's taking so long between books, it's not like we're there watching him work every day.

Del Toro to direct The Hobbit... and sequel?

Yeah, this is excellent news. Del Toro has done some great stuff. The only downside is that this probably means that we won't see "At the Mountains of Madness" for 5 or 6 years. Bummer.

    A Dance with Dragons - Pre-order?

I don't know how they pick the date, but it may as well be a number drawn out of a hat. I never, ever, ever ever believe a release date shown on Amazon. They've been wrong so many times I've lost count. My wife was waiting a for a book for over a year and Amazon probably revised the release...

Sci-Fi Shows Set to Dominate Fox's Fall Lineup

Fox moved Firefly around so many times they made it almost impossible to figure out when it was on. I liked the show and it was moved and preempted so many times that I had to check the listings each week to see when (and if) it was on. It almost seemed like they were trying to kill the show...

Complaining about it is more fun?

    New GSL Announcement

If WotC is the lion and the third party companies are the gazelle, does that mean the consumers are the mice that get stepped on while the lion eats? As someone who loves D&D and RPG's in general, I can't recall the last time I've been this disappointed (with the GSL, 4E itself, communication...

Good Genesis or the ones where they let Phil sing?

Sci-Fi Shows Set to Dominate Fox's Fall Lineup

Yeah. Fox has had a crappy record with any sort of sci fi shows. I'll be shocked if any of those make it a full season. If the current popular TV shows are any judge, these shows will have to be really stupid and completely lacking in creativity to survive on network TV.

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

It's pretty much the only option at this point since we're about two months from the release of 4E, there's no license in sight and not single meaningful word on the subject from Wizards in a long time. Since there's apparently not going to be any third party adventures released around the same...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

He's talking about the "GNS" thing from Ron Edwards. Personally, I never thought of D&D as being particularly "simulationist", but it definitely seems to be moving even more towards the gamist end of the spectrum. My reasons are 100% the same, but unfortunately there's a lot of things inherent...

WOTC, Scott, Where in the World is the GSL

That doesn't look good. The cynic in me is thinking that they're waiting to be fully staffed in their legal department and ready to be sued when they make a GSL/OGL announcement.

April '08: What Are You Reading?

Any favorites so far? If you do decide to read "Perdido Street Station" next, you'll find that it's a big change of pace from the pulp and S&S stuff. By pace, I really do mean pace. Perdido Street is excellent, but the pace is leisurely to say the least. Still a very rewarding book. There...

April '08: What Are You Reading?

I'm reading Del Rey's last Conan collection, The Conquering Sword of Conan. This one has some of the very best of the best Conan stuff. They certainly got the good stuff in the last book, including "Red Nails" and "Beyond the Black River". I'm also reading Realms of War, a collection of...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

I can only speak for myself (obviously), but I'm a little skeptical that DDI is going to provide this in any sort of a timely manner. So, instead of being out of date and free like the SRD, it will be out of date and cost money. As for the BoEF, there's been a copy at my local Borders since it...

I think you could have played that campaign using the rules from Connect Four and it wouldn't have been any different.

Pathfinder OGL/3.5 RPG system from Paizo

Like HAL in 2001 or GlaDOS in Portal? "I'd like to roll up a character now. I'm sorry, Brad, I'm afraid I can't do that." Gleemax just better not start staring at me with it's creepy, red unblinking eye.
