Del Toro to direct The Hobbit... and sequel?

At least Peter Jackson is still executive producer, and its his production teams on site too, so hopefully his hand will still be very strong in this.

I am liking this, if any director besides Peter Jackson should be doing The Hobbit, Del Toro is the guy to choose.

We all know he is a fan of the genre, and his movies are extremely well crafted. I think visually, there will be lots of references to Peter's LoTR but I would like to see how Del Toro will put his own touch on it.

Yeah, this is excellent news. Del Toro has done some great stuff. The only downside is that this probably means that we won't see "At the Mountains of Madness" for 5 or 6 years. Bummer.

Well... The studios have been reluctant to do it. They have become more willing with the sucess of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth. So if The Hobbit does well, like it most likely will. This could help push At the Mountain of Madness forward

and then a movie to more-or-less bridge "Hobbit" and LotR.

Which, as I understand it, is heavily based on Tolkien's copious notes. So even though it's not a true adaptation, like the others are, it's not made up out of whole cloth, either.

Personally, I can't wait. :)
