    Good Rpg novels

Here are a few that I really enjoy, for what it's worth. - George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice & Fire" series is excellent. The first book is called "A Game of Thrones". These books are set in a low magic world and the subject matter can be fairly dark. I wouldn't recommend these books to...

It's happening again!: DTRRPG.com is selling WotC books!

The price is the main reason I won't be buying these, but the DRM seems like a misguided attempt to keep these books from being pirated. I'm sure that 5 minutes after these were released, someone had cracked the DRM and posted the books on a P2P.

    The Best Novels?

I actually enjoyed "City of Towers" and I'm not a big fan of most of the WotC novels. Paul S. Kemp's books are my hands down favorites and some of the best fiction I've read in quite some time. I'd start with "Shadow's Witness" and then move on to "Twilight Falling", "Dawn of Night" and...

Do Personal Opinions Of Authors, Etc Dissuade You From Purchases?

As another poster said, I won't support publishers who steal material and flagrantly violate the D20 license because I feel that it's bad for this tiny little niche hobby, but other than that I don't mind if authors say or do things I disagree with. It's natural that I won't agree with...

    Half-elves........why no one chooses them?

Except for the ones that have Elf or Half-Elf as prerequisites. ;) Anyway, I can honestly say that I've never felt compelled to play a half elf for anything other than roleplaying reasons. Nothing about the race calls to my inner power gamer.

PHB2: Duskblade spell list... is there a correction out yet?

Yeah, but IMO it's not a huge deal. A higher DC on spell saves is worth far more than a few potential missing 0 level spells. Also, if I had a 16 or higher in an ability score I'm not entirely sure I wouldn't put it in to Strength instead of Intelligence. Since you're going to be spending...

PHB2: Duskblade spell list... is there a correction out yet?

I hope, besides correcting the reference to the Duskblade spell list, the only errata is to limit the Duskblade abilities to Duskblade spells only. I'd be sorely dissapointed if the class is nerfed in any way, considering the book has just been released.

    A Game of Thrones

Actually, if I remember correctly a good chunk of "A Dance with Dragons" was originally going to be in "A Feast for Crows". I believe that's why "Feast" is less gigantic as far as page count goes than the rest of the books. Anyway, I *love* GRRM's stuff. Without any spoilers, it's great how...

    Forgotten Realms Affiliations?

Sounds like a fun project. I'd be happy to help out. I'm a long time Realms fan and just got a copy of PHB II. Out of curiousity, what area is your game taking place in?

    Tumble Question

I was always under the impression that tumble is treated the same as moving through rough terrain, ie. each 5' square tumbled costs 10' of your movement. That's how I've always done it.

    DuskBlades and Prestige Classes

Ari, I haven't fully read through the class yet, so I actually just assumed that wording was in there. Didn't realize it was missing. Do you have personal opinions on the design philosophy behind a class that seems to one-up both the Bladesinger and Spellsword classes? As it stands right...

Duskblade: popular one-level dip for warriors?

Unless your warrior-type is going to be using light armor only it's probably not a great dip since you'll have a hefty ASF to worry about. I guess it would be cool for a mobile type fighter, like someone working towards Dervish. Edit: The Dervish thing could be interesting...I had just posted...

    DuskBlades and Prestige Classes

I don't necessarily think it's a problem, but it certainly seems to be a shift in design philosophy. Perhaps the new Complete Mage book will have some PRCs that would work well with the Duskblade. Edit: Perhaps a better title for this thread would be "Duskblade builds". Can you do a lightly...

    DuskBlades and Prestige Classes

This is *not* a "the Duskblade is too powerful" thread (I hope), but I was wondering if anyone noticed that there seems to be a lack of synergy between the Duskblade class and a lot of the popular gish prestige classes. Bladesinger doesn't work well with the Duskblades armored mage ability and...

Should I add Action Points to my game?

We've been using Action Dice (as written in the Eberron campaign setting) in our game for some time now and it's been working really well. It adds an extra little bit of drama to already exciting combats. It does add some more metagame elements to play, but the player's often don't know the...

    Good FR novel

Another vote for anything by Paul Kemp. I absolutely love the Erevis Cale books, and I usually don't find anything to suit my tastes in the WotC line of novels. Although it would help to read the Cale short story in "The Halls of Stormweather", I read "Shadow's Witness" without reading the...

    All D20 Is Broken

Well, I just played a game last week involving characters between levels 10-12. This is a long running campaign, and we've had many battles that made it past a half dozen rounds. We've actually had a few that looked like they would turn out to be TPK's. The longer fights weren't tedious at...

    Favorite Character...

Favorite so far is my 10th level human monk, Zoryn Malkov. He's a rather modest 25 point buy character, but he's been through a lot. He's been captured, tortured, possessed by an evil artifact, martyred and then reincarnated as a kobold. All of this is fine, since his patron deity is Ilmater...

    Rogue Sneak Attacks

I don't know much about that fancy Gestalt stuff, but I think it's a good assumption that a well-played (and long-lived) rogue would do well to keep himself out of heavy melee. I know our party rogue is very careful about how she gets in to melee for her sneak attacks. Consequently, she has...

    D&D Novels- best authors?

I really like Paul S. Kemp's stuff. I've read and enjoyed all of the Erevis Cale books, and I'm not normally a fan of gaming fiction. Unfortunately, I agree that most of the WotC novels range from mediocre to terrible, but Paul Kemp's books are one of the few exceptions. For the record, some...
