    My AD&D game is dead

Was anime even known in the US before 1990? Was it a negative buzzword before 2000? For the record, I don't search through the books and magazines to find evidence to prove anything. (Not that anyone is accusing me of it.) I just have all my old books and magazines on a bookshelf in my bedroom...

Did your group have only one DM?

15 years of AD&D1 gaming: I DMed most of the time, but I was not the only one ever. I played a character, too, sometimes. And even when I was the DM, the Players were not ignorant of the rules (at least not because they were "mere" Players). Quasqueton

    My AD&D game is dead

Yeah, it might show that I have a <gasp> sense of humor! The "trolling" comment is just a snicker at the last line I quoted: "I am not putting down the AD&D game, although I realize it sounds that way." This line is almost always found in a good troll on an Internet message board. I'm going to...

    My AD&D game is dead

I haven't seen a "I'm quitting D&D" thread in a little while, so when I came across this old one, I thought I'd post it. Dragon #189, January 1993, "Forum" letter: [Deleted comment - I was being humorous, but it didn't come across that way.] Quasqueton

What would you do - xp award

We just had another game session where this situation came up. The 3 PCs and 1 NPC exited the dungeon. They needed some special material components for very necessary spells (life or death necessity), so 1 PC and the NPC left to go get the materials. The other 2 PCs stayed at the dungeon exit...

    Was 3rd edition fundamentaly flawed?

With D&D4, we'll get to add another plane era to the list. Yay! http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?p=3263976 It was a sad thing that so many took the analogy as offensive. Quasqueton

CRs/ELs -- apparently the designers don't read the rules they talk about (old thread)

Mea culpa, on that item. I should improve my reading comprehension skill. But, that just means the number possible for a goblin and kobold encounter go up for what he is talking about. The complaint is weakened even more. Quasqueton

CRs/ELs -- apparently the designers don't read the rules they talk about (old thread)

From "Design & Development" 8/27/07 I know this is a month old, now, but it has bothered me ever since I first read it. It bothers me because apparently the designers don't understand the very rules they've written and are tinkering with. Actually, "according to the rules" (DMG page 49), a...

Must you have and use every book for D&D

Must you have and use every book for D&D

See, I read a lot of posts saying that they hear or read others saying this. But I've never seen anyone saying that *they* have Players insisting on this kind of stuff. I've seen things like, "A lot of Players insist the DM include or allow things from the many supplements," but I'm not seeing...

On taking power away from the DM

I had a DM (for one game session) who used the blind rolling method of decision making: DM: Okay, roll d-percent. Me: <rolls> 53. DM: Okay. . . roll d6. Me: <rolls> 2. DM: . . . Okay. . . roll d20. Me: <rolls> 14. DM: . . . Okay. . . you succeed. I think he was just stalling for time to...

Must you have and use every book for D&D

It amazes me, all this complaining about too many supplement books. People claim they "must" get, have, and use anything WotC puts out for D&D. Some call it "rules bloat." There is actually a thread on this forum talking about that some think it is good that a new edition of the game is coming...

    Overuse of monsters and magic.

Interestingly, there are no basic +1 daggers in the AD&D DMG. There are: Dagger +1, +2 vs. creatures smaller than man-sized = 750gp Dagger +2, +3 vs. creatures larger than man-sized = 2,000gp Dagger of Venom = 3,000gp But I remember seeing +1 daggers all over the place in the old days. ...
