Well, in my case the answer is "Because I'd have to drop out of the discussion."
There's really not much to say on the subject, and my authors and I have addressed all the things that there are to say. The words that might have gone to the depth of mechanics and advice I'd consider necessary...
I'm most interested in how folks will react to the brand-new material. Anyone yet read the Blowing Up Your Neighborhood or Gamma World Campaign preview downloads at Sword & Sorcery, and if so, got any comments or questions?
Hey, if rule #1 isn't "Don't mess with John Drake", it sure ought to be.
Y'know, we actually talked at one point, some of the authors and me, about what the Village might be like in the Gamma Age.
Lizard sums up my design hopes very well.
There is now a Gamma World forum at Sword & Sorcery, and I'm posting some teasers there. But they'll also get reposted at Wolf Spoor, for those who'd rather wait a little bit and get the benefits of well-tuned modern forum software.
Feel free to...
My advice is to go for the real thing: the Foreign Language Press of Beijing publishes complete translations of several Chinese classic novels, each in three or four beautiful and well-mad little volumes, and you can get a hundred-chapter novel for $30 US or so.
Want to read epic political...
Let's see. Ed Bourelle, who's doing a lot of maps for SSS these days, did astoundingly cool maps of the world, North America, and the lower Mississippi basin. Apart from that, it's pretty much the usual crew. (There's a little layout juggle remaining, so I'm not 100% sure how it'll settle out.)
It's not a spoiler to say that this is "prophet" in the Old Testament sense - not necessarily someone who foresees the future, but someone who understands and judges the present. The class talents deal with insight and persuasion, among other things. I'm hoping they'll be a lot of fun to play...
I am! He illustrated representatives of the Gamma World versions of the Strong, Fast, Tough, Smart, Dedicated, and Charismatic Hero classes, and of the Cybercologist, Leader, Nanosmith, Prophet, Survivor, and War Chief advanced classes.
Actually, I just didn't want to spoil someone else's surprise. But now that I've got my author's copies of the Player's Guide to Fighters & Barbarians in hand, I see that he's already got some WW/SSS work in print. So I shall burble.
You young'uns, he said from the distant heights of his late...
I should expand on this, so that folks understand the outlook I have, and which many of my colleagues have whether or not they mention it.
Y'all are being good sports about it. It's just that we keep running into folks out yonder *waves hand at the Internet* for whom the presence of one thing...
Minis are really expensive in the volume that Gamma World figures would sell, alas - not a good return on investment. Cool cardboard figures would be a possibility, though don't count on it.
We're using the d20M wealth system, because it works pretty well (once you fool with starting prices)...
It's D20 Modern, though there will be an appendix on D&D-style classes, and nearly all the mechanics should work just fine as is. (I'm particularly hoping that the community and investigation rules will get spread around.)
