    Shield Push Question

As I see the rules: 1. Enemy declares a Close Blast attack and chooses where to place it, targeting your ally but not you. 2. You get to make a basic melee attack against the enemy as an immediate interrupt as part of your Combat Superiority class feature. 3. If you hit, you also get to push...

    Philosophy behind Intelligent Blademaster feat

I think it was necessary for the Swordmage because otherwise a swordmage class feature is basically worthless (the offensive mark). The paladin doesn't rely on basic melee attacks any more than any other class, as their class features don't rely on it. For instance, if a Fighter's main stat...

    Shield Push Question

Under the rules for Interrupt Actions, it says that "If an interrupt invalidates a triggering action, that action is lost." I'd therefore say that since the origin square of the blast is no longer in the creature's space, there is no blast at all. I think the rules are pretty clear that the...

PC starts a town: DM panics...

I think PCs running towns/manors/strongholds works fine, so long as you reach an understanding. For the manor and stronghold that I run, we have an agreement: I won't try to manipulate things with cheese (i.e. wall of iron + fabricate), and he is mostly amenable to any ideas that I have. I...

    Alternatives to "Save the World"

Make a better world. Fight corruption. Better the lives of the commoners somehow. Build lasting humanizing institutions. Be the best at something trivial. Build the best tavern, for instance. Maybe that means traveling around the globe to find new recipes, ingredients, and things to put...

Minions with 1hp - Can anyone justify this?

Except that it's already been stated that players are supposed to know which monsters are minions. Nice straw man. Your argument might make sense if I was actually making some sort of absurd munchkiny argument, like "the rules never mention anything about gravity, therefore it doesn't exist."...

Minions with 1hp - Can anyone justify this?

There are a lot of abilities that automatically cause damage. Cloud of Daggers, Cleave, and Consecrated Ground just to name a few that come to mind. All of those will insta-kill most minions in one round because they do damage automatically without needing to hit and can never "miss". Given...

Minions with 1hp - Can anyone justify this?

My biggest problem with minions is that a level 1 wizard can automatically insta-kill even the toughest minions in the MM. Knowing that fact makes it hard for me to believe, for instance, that minions are ever a threat to anything. Heck, it's possible (though maybe unlikely) that even if the...

What exactly does being "marked" mean?

Haha, I'm blind. Thanks for the help everyone.

What exactly does being "marked" mean?

So I understand the standard Fighter and Paladin marks just fine. My question is what being "marked" means in every other context. For instance, several Fighter/Paladin powers cause their targets to be marked. If a Paladin marks a creature with, say, Radiant Charge (level 13 attack), what...

    Do enemies know they're marked?

I am almost positive that I saw something in the PHB that went something like: "Your opponent knows exactly what conditions you have marked him with." Am I just hallucinating or has anyone else seen this?

Defender Newbie, Paladin vs. Fighter in marking.

Way to totally confuse the new guy by talking about a totally different system. ;) The Fighter's mark is far and away superior to the Paladin's. The paladin's mark suffers from several severe flaws: -It can only affect 1 creature at a time -You have to be actively attacking that opponent -The...

    Half-elf dilettante power

In general, look for things which use your primary stat. As a paladin, I picked Sacred Fire from the Cleric to get a ranged Charisma attack which still uses your holy symbol as an implement.

    How will this party do?

The paladin is going to get mobbed and taken down, and then it'll be open season on the softer characters. If you play that paladins can't Lay on Hands themselves, then they have no real way to heal themselves other than a Second Wind, which is like a tiny speed bump compared to the damage he's...

    Smudges - All Core books

I'll jump in and agree that my 4e books (full set) are fine. I was worried after reading this thread, but I'm totally satisfied with the quality of the books. Huge thumbs up to Rouse for his excellent information.

    Magic Item Dependence

I believe the justification for leaving in some must-have slots was to allow some customization without it being overburdening. If you wanted to boost up your attacks at the expense of your defenses, you can spend your money on a bigger sword rather than better armor.

    bracers of entangling blast

You should go look up what entangled means again. First, it doesn't immobilize people, it simply halves their speed and prevents running. Secondly, it doesn't make them helpless nor deny them their dexterity bonus to AC, so the rogue won't be able to sneak attack. It's a pretty nice effect...

    D&D 4E 4e PHB confirms what I've always suspected...

You know who I think looks particularly elfish? Olivia Wilde, from House. Almond eyes, pointy ears... and very, very hot.

    One handed Reach Weapon?

What's the easiest way to use a reach weapon one handed? It looks like something like Strongarm Bracers don't help, unless I'm wrong? It looks like it'd just let you use a larger 2 handed reach weapon. If I'm reading the weapon rules in the PHB right, it sounds like I can simply use a small...

Swapping metamagic spells for cure spells

Not exactly. With a BAB +1 or better, you can draw a weapon or ready or loose a shield as a free action while you are making a regular move. Sheathing a weapon is still always a move equivalent action.
