    Wotc takes on ... Optimization?!?

At any rate, if it really is about pimping your PC, then I expect the CO boards to have a field day picking it apart on the day it is released. I lost all faith when wotc said in rules compendium that TWFing + weapon spec was "power-gamish". It is like...you know it is bad, yet still...

Good spell to cast via Miracle for my evil cleric?

Unless your paladin has some means of teleportation, I would concur that forcecage is the best, and also the most despicable thing you can do to your PC. ;)

    Wotc takes on ... Optimization?!?

I have never heard of the hero builder's guidebook before. What it any good?

    Wotc takes on ... Optimization?!?

Probably old news to you vets here, but just saw this a while ago. Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Product (D&D Player's Strategy Guide) The excerpt suggests that this is an optimization guide of sorts. Seriously? Wotc trying to tell us how to build better characters...

    1st level half-ogre paladin.

Yeah, that is one of the downsides of playing a large character early on - having to pay through the nose for your armour and weapons. :( Steadfast determination would negate the drawback of having a low wis for will saves, but that costs another 2 feats. Maybe start working either towards...

    Use Magic Device vs. Runestaff

Unless the entry explicitly states that the magic chalice actually requires you to expend a turn attempt to achieve the desired effect, I would say that is simply creative license. UMD would let you simulate having turn undead for purposes of interacting with other abilities, but would not give...

    Use Magic Device vs. Runestaff

Runestaff requires that you actually expend a spell slot to cast the appropriate spell. Even if your rogue successfully UMDs a runestaff into adding its spells to your spell list, you still can't cast them since he won't have any spell slots to use, and simulating a spell slot isn't a valid use...

    1st level half-ogre paladin.

Yeah, but then he would be better off using a greatsword, plus he wants the benefit of a shield as well. :)

    1st level half-ogre paladin.

I won't actually recommend that you decrease your AC anymore. Your +4NA is really what is preventing you from soaking damage. And with only 1HD, your hp won't be that stellar. You shouldn't have too big a problem hitting either, with +1bab, +7str, -1size, +1masterwork for +8 to-hit (comparable...

    Good race for a paladin.

Player's guide to faerun has a LA+0 version of aasimar (where you keep the stat bonuses). If you have races of faerun, there is a feat you can take to grant you wings (aasimar/tiefling only). Quite a number of races have their own paladin substitution features, though I am not entirely...

    Questions: Overchannel, Skirmish

A wand of vigor can be more efficient, provided you survive the battle (which isn't always a given). A single heal spell cures more hp, but you "waste" a standard action casting it during battle, which could be used to do some other action like attacking instead (that and you need to be adjacent...

    "Hold Person", Paralyzed, Prone?

Hold person is a compulsion (so you are effectively "ordering" the person to stand still, and him literally obeying you), rather than some jedi force grip effect. In theory, if you cast this at a person while he is in the middle of some precarious situation (like balancing on one toe), he...

    Questions: Overchannel, Skirmish

100 temp hp seems fair for the amount of power points you need to sink into it. I know PHB2 has that 9th lv spell which turns you into a dragon, granting 150temp hp in the process (granted, you are "stuck" in the form of a dragon).

    Are prestige classes still viable?

In what sense? I certainly don't see how being a barb2/fighter2/warblade2 (using fractional save rules if need be) makes me any less of a fighter than a fighter6. In addition, if aggressive multiclassing would allow you to better represent your character's backstory, then shouldn't it be all...

3.X Zombies: How Can They Be More Of a Threat?

When you say that zombies are weak, do you bemoan the apparent lack of high-cr zombies, or that they are too weak for their cr? I thought that at lower lvs, they remain fairly challenging foes since they have a lot of HD for their cr (which consequently gives them a fair amount of hp, decent...

    Rapid Shot feat for warlock?

Let's put it this way. A warlock using his eldritch blast is a standard action, much like a wizard casting a spell. A wizard with bab16+ would not be able to cast 4 spells each round as a full-round action. In the same vein, a warlock would not be able to fire off multiple blasts from a high...

Characters with Pounce! ALSO: Fair price for Pounce?

How is a fighter a defender in 3e? He has nothing that would entice the foe to want to attack him over other PCs. Typically, the enemy would be better off taking an AoO to attack the other more fragile PCs. At best, he is a striker/controller (using a spiked chain to trip-lock foes).

So a 2nd level Dragonborn Warden walks down the street... and does 613 damage?

I would say you need an exercise in optimism, not optimisation. :p
