Robert E. Howard's Conan AMA With Jason Durall & Chris Lites

The Medieval interpretation is that of Robert E. Howard scholars such as our own Jeffrey Shanks. It applies to the Hyborian Kingdoms—Aquilonia, Koth, Nemedia, Corinthia, and Ophir. Howard always intended them to read as Medieval European-esque. Aquilonia is Medieval France, not Rome. The Rome...

Robert E. Howard's Conan AMA With Jason Durall & Chris Lites

One of the things I like to remember is that many of the tropes of D&D started with Robert E. Howard. Heroic swordplay against weird horrors, seen prominently in AD&D 1E, is very Howardian. So, I think the answer to your question is sort of akin to the sculptor who, when asked how he sculpts a...

No it does not. Nor the fact that so many of those pulp people traded names. Also, Howard named everyone Amalric, Amulric, and the like!

It's only spelled as Hyboria in Howard. We just had typos. Also, it's really Hyborian Age or Hyborian Kingdoms. There is no "Hyboria" on a map. The continent is the Thurian Continent. The latter is a commonly confused issue, though. I believe my autocorrect changes it to Hyborea sometimes, too.

It's also a nod to Lovecraft: http://thecimmerian.com/2009/02/19/the-call-of-kathulos-secret-oceans-and-black-seas-of-infinity/ So, that is why it uses the word "vale" and sounds the way it does, says the writer of that part.

What bothers you? Vale is a term Howard used.

Planescape Unusual Planescape Ideas for 5E (Or Any E)

I'm looking for Planescape ideas outside the bounds of the setting as written. As an example, I'm thinking of having the characters from the D&D cartoon, now grown, still trying to find their way home. This also implies that Earth is real and somehow accessible from the Planes. Though, one...
