Do all NPCs in your game need to be statted out?

Important NPCs need at the bare minimum a short back story, some goals & plots, some dirt on somebody(ies) and a reason to interact with the PCs. If combat at some point is likely I'll stat them out, if not I'll just pick something close out of the rulebook if an unexpected fight occurs (or...

    Dice Pools Or Variable Dice?

Depends on the dice pool, I never enjoyed the numbered dice pools, but I sure like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3e's Different dice w/symbols dice pools.

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Let them have fun with there free-booting but inlay some meta-plot in the background/on-top. They might raid a ship and find an image of a diety being desecrated by the ships chaplain (or doing something else obviously against the core beliefs of his diety) . Have divine powered PCs have...

Best GAMES AROUND! (NOT D20/4e, White Wolf or Cthulhu)

I have to say Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3e (the new one). The new dice pool (simple & intuitive!) and the talents, party sheets and fortune point mechanic are all brilliant and well executed. Now if only the rulebook wasn't so poorly organized....... I'll also say DragonLance 5th age(the...

How do you deal with writer's block?

Maybe thats the ticket. Don't come up with adventures at all. Craft NPCs, Organizations, fantastic locales, with all thier goals, ambitions and plans; throw a few hooks out to the PCs and let the adventures take shape organically.

What are your ideal design goals for D&D?

< /=20 minute combat: some tactics is fine but a lot of "tactics" in 3e and 4e aren't really all that tactical and just prolong the rounds. Ideally 2-5 rounds is fine and I have no problem with a bit of swinginess. Rules that are simple and intuitive but allow for considerable depth as well...

What are you favorite/least favorite Dungeon Adventures

Best: Tallow's Deep #18 Thiondar's Legacy #30 Ex Libris #29 I'll have a couple more to add after I remember the actual titles.

    Ideally, How Many Battles?

I think a better question might be: what percentage of time would be devoted to combat in an ideal session? 10-20% would be ideal in my mind, but then I'm the sort of guy that wishes fights were 10-20mins max like back in earlier editions.

    One Campaign, Three Systems

I'm doing similar, but in a chapter based layout. The first chapter just wrapped (4e D&D). Chapter 2 will be with different characters using 3e WHFRP.

Warhammer 3e Demo Experiences -OR- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bits

Didn't play yesterday, due to holiday issues, but have made up a few characters. We were really impressed with the speed of character creation though. In about 20 minutes I was able to help a player completely finish a character, not accounting for the RP elements. I haven't seen character...

Warhammer 3e Demo Experiences -OR- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bits

Finally got my copy on boxing day. Still pouring through the books as of now. The rule bits are fairly dispersed through out the 4 books, they could probably all fit in 30-50 pages (I hope they reorganize them and do a players guide like that). Poor rules organization is the only complaint...

    LFG booted from DragonCon

This comes across as typical American ignorance towards Canada (Yes most Americans don't act this way, but enough that there is a stereotype; any heresay horse***t story they hear about Canada must be true). Recent Vaccination estimates were about 30% had gotten the vaccine(which would be ~10M...

Warhammer 3e Demo Experiences -OR- How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bits

From what I've heard and seen this game seems awesome. It seems much more suited to the style of play I want (RP heavy with occasional short, non-tactical combats) than the last two editions of D&D. I really like the innovative take on dice rolls, and it seems like it will quickly become second...

How many cycles of 4E core books will you buy?

I've bought 2 cycles thus far (minus DMG 2) and some other books too, but I'm done. I won't be buying anymore, it's getting bloated enough already. And in some aspects I'm starting to grow weary of 4e as a games system. Several of the default assumptions are beginning to bother me. I like...

Where to find misc game table props?

I'll second the legos. You can order the individual bits you want off their site. Also the new lego castle sets are pretty good.

$125,000 in fines for D&D pirates? Help me do the math...

I'm just curious how a lone individual is expected to pay so much? I would assume that there must be a payment plan/wage garnishing if WOTC expects to collect the entire sum.

On homogeneity, or how I finally got past the people talking past each other part

I'm not sure where/how to jump in here so I'm just going to state some criticisms and likes I have about 4e(and a bit about 3e), I generally like 4e if that's relevant at all. Criticisms: 50/50 save mechanic-seems arbitrary. Sustain standard effects and until end of next turn or start of...

    Making your own power cards

I phrased that poorly, I meant the size of one piece of the split card, 1/2 the size of a magic card. I'm fiddling but I can't seem to make a textless version of the split card(which is basically what I want) so I'm just asking if anyoe knows of anything similiar size wise. Thanks for the...
