    Five Alignments?

Here is why Chaotic Good is a bad distinction, in retrospect. Suppose a Good person sees one law as mandating truly "good" behavior and another law as rewarding "evil" behavior (for those in charge, at least). Yeah, a non-lawful person would have no problem rejecting whatever laws they see fit...

    The new point-buy?

Then I could take 17,15,12,11,10,8; and at almost all levels I would feel better on average (up till then) than the 18,14,10,10,8 guy, due to how people are saying the bonus stat levels are said to run*. Yeah, he'd have one more of the top stat half the time; but my top 2 stats totaled, top 3...

    Character record sheets?

Neceros has some 4e character sheets. Edit: *cries*

    Paladins mark "fix" a plazebo?

Why shouldn't the Paladin defend the Fighter by forcing the enemy to move, and why shouldn't the Fighter get an AoO when the enemy moves? It seems like a legitimate tactic for a Defender-loaded party, particularly since it only works once-ish. As soon as the monster melees the Paladin, it will...

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

You might do one roll but engineer "degrees of success" into the system. Minimal success gets one enemy within the AoE, above average success gets half of the enemies within the AoE, critical success gets all of the enemies within the AoE. I'm not sure finer granularity than that is needed.

What good is an Endurance skill?

Suppose you have 20 Con and only 10 Str. It seems intuitive to me that you should be able to climb a steep cliff as well as someone with 20 Str and 10 Con. The stronger guy starts out faster than you but ends up slower than you, so it balances out. Having Athletics alone, even with the...

What good is an Endurance skill?

Completing long rituals. Most anything Athletics could do, given a slightly longer timespan, so it keeps us from needing an adhoc "highest of Str or Con (but only for a slightly longer timespan)" rule to account for high Con/low Str characters.

D&D 4E From the 4e MM preview: Astraljamming?!

You could always have something like density layers, thus creating multiple two-dimensional sea surfaces (complete with islands, reefs, etc.) within a three-dimensional sea space.

    D&D 4E Neceros' 4e Character Sheet (Version: 1.00)

Right now, your site "can't find the file specified," so I'm not sure exactly what you are asking about. However, I would imagine simply having a space to write down the range or reach of any basic attack would be fine. There's no need to two different sections for basic attacks just because...

    Dragonborn Info

http://www.idahostatesman.com/apbusinessnews/story/339387.html Any of you sharp-eyed people take a look at the character sheet photo in that bunch? There's what is probably a big HP box, bottomed with a Second Wind checkbox, followed by an Experience section, followed by basic attacks...

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

But they are only your allies if they are allied with your moving them. If they are in conflict with your decision, that makes them enemies within the scope of that conflict/decision. Thus, they cannot be forcibly moved.

    Hexes and offset squares

In regards to half-hexes, could anyone give me a rundown of the realistic net benefits or penalties of 1) fighting with your back up against a wall and 2) fighting back-to-back with an ally? The former has a negative connotation, while the latter has a positive connotation -- but it seems to me...

Okay, where do you stand on diagonal movement?

In terms of gameplay, the most important two distances are 1) the shortest distance around a particular space (i.e., traveling along the spaces adjacent to that space), and 2) the distance to each adjacent space. The most intuitive, consistent conception of these distances begins with the idea...

Higher resolution PHB pic on Amazon

Gregvord Stonemend and Leipidus Twei sneak off through the methanous mists, vowing to never again adventure with Turdborn warriors or fart-pact warlocks. (Sorry, it's hard to think like a mature adult when looking at that picture.) Now if I make a Dragonborn, I'll have to name him Turd Ferguson.

    How big is the Jump?

They claim to have fixed the crafting system, so the Artificer shouldn't be too difficult to emulate with a Wizard or Warlord. The Binder would be a Warlock. And I'd make the Knight a Paladin who serves the god/ideal of honor or chivalry.

    15-minute Milestones? WDaE? Redux

What defines an encounter? I thought this question was finally laid to rest with confirmation of the 5-minute rest period. An encounter is the period of time between two, consecutive 5-minute rests. Beautiful. Then they threw in milestones. If a milestone is the period of time between every...

    Theoretical Moster EXP values?

Well, Solo monsters are 5 times the normal XP for that level. The black dragon, for instance, is 5 * 175. This, I believe, has been confirmed. Two Elites, then, might be equal to somewhere between 2 and 2.5 times the normal XP. It works perfectly for the Pit Fiend: 18000 / 8000 = 2.25...

So Int does NOT add to skills

Your point is not mutually exclusive with the statement you quoted. For example, Int and Dex both provide general benefits to Reflex on a system level, but any character can still freely ignore one of them without losing those general benefits. This is good of the 4e stat system. On the other...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Suppose they had another rule: "Normally, all move actions must be straight lines. Any change in direction requires ending the character's current move action and beginning another." In such a case, it might make sense to replace a 1 diagonal = 2 squares with 1 diagonal = 1 square. Could this...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

One method for achieving 1,1,1,1 for straight movements and 1,2,1,2 for diagonal movements is by using Cairo pentagonal tiling. You can overlay 90-degree walls without much distortion. OTOH, you have to disallow corner-jumping, which leaves only 5 paths of movement from each tile. Plus, it's...
