    Skill Based System for Fantasy

Skill Based System Savage Worlds is the way to go. It's completely skill based and VERY simple and fast.

Where on Greyhawk do you run?

Nyrond I ran an 18-year Greyhawk campaign that was mainly set in Nyrond, though the characters were all over the map by the time it was over. I used the heck out of Carl Sargent's unpublished Ivid the Undying accessory in the last years of that campaign. Oh, how I love some Greyhawk.

    Are Mega-Adventures / APs Bad?

20-Year Old 20th-level PCs IMO, runniing the APs and keeping up with the encounter challenges isn't the problem, it's the time in which the APs happen that warps all bounds of reality and campaign cohesion. Almost all APs (especially the Dungeon magazine ones), happen in a span of a few...

Dungeons & Dragons: Is anything essential?

Sacred What? d20 for skills, checks, and attacks (notice that I didn't say saves because I hope they go with the static saves like Star Wars Saga has), classes, and levels. I can tell you the thing that needs to be dumped from D&D—the entire magic system. If they do not completely scrap and...

Tell me of Kingdoms of Kalamar

Kalamar Kicks Ass I bought the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting hardback (the 1st printing that declared itself "An Epic Ass-kicking World" on the back cover) and I ended my 18-year Greyhawk campaign to switch to Kalamar soon after. I've been a hardcore Kalamar fan ever since. IMO, Kalamar is a...

My Take on D&D a la Saga...

Dropping Multiple Attacks I've been thinking about dropping multiple attacks for some time now. I think the problem is that most players don't see combat and attacks as the abstract elements that they are meant to be in D&D. A combatant in D&D is considered to be parrying, dodging, and...

Your Experience With Red Hand of Doom

Too Much Too Fast This is the exact reason that I will never run any of these new mega adventures or adventure paths as serious, long-term campaigns. They advance WWWAAAAAYYYYY to quickly, which is a problem with the core 3E advancement system in general. As a DM and as a player I hate having...

    How to stop Tumblers?

Just Add the BAB The static DC 15 to Tumble through a threatened square and the DC 25 to Tumble through an occupied area with no AoO are a couple of the most broken rules in the D&D game. Even the designers admit they made a mistake by not having the DC set by an opposed roll or the opponent's...

Is RAISE DEAD (etc.) too readily available in most D&D campaigns?

Absolutely IMO, raise dead is absolutely too available and the spell should be removed from the spell list completely. Raising a dead companion should be a legendary quest, accomplished only once in any character's lifetime. Also, it should only be available by using major artifacts or by...

    A Whole New Magic System?

D&D Magic System Blows ANYTHING would be better than the current D&D magic system. It's disappointing that the "flagship" RPG system has the worst magic system in the industry.

    Wound / vitality system pros

Taking Hostages The hit point system has always bothered me for a number of reasons but the worst is the impossible task of taking a hostage and actually making any player that knows the rules take it seriously. It just can't happen within the rules. One issue is the way that actions are...

Which Sci-Fi RPG has the richest setting?

Dawning Star I have to cast my vote for Dawning Star, a fairly new setting for d20 Modern and d20 Future from Blue Devil Games. I bought a copy at GenCon Indy on a whim. Even before I finished reading it, I decided that as soon as my current D&D camaign winds down I'm running a Dawning Star...

    Apple Imac G5

Go For It I'm a life-long Mac user and have never owned or needed a PC. For stability and security, you can't do better than Mac OSX. I have NEVER gotten a virus that affected any of my Macs. Personally, I would wait for the new Pentium Macs. Apple has already said that they will take steps...

WotC comes to you and asks you to pick a setting...

Greyhawk & Kalamar Greyhawk is definitely my first choice but Kalamar is very close. Kalamar has a similar feel to Greyhawk but is much more internally consistent and better developed. I honestly think that Kalamar has become what Greyhawk should have been.

I have a real problem with Tumble

Tumble fix I have the same problem with Tumble. It seems ridiculous to me that the DC is the same whether a character is up against a 1st-level commoner or an ancient red dragon. I just add the opponent's BAB to the Tumble DC. It's a quick fix that seems to work pretty well in our group.

Why does DnD make force you to have magic to get better?

Just Add Half BAB IMC, I let characters add half their BAB to their AC as a dodge bonus and fighters get an extra +1. The bonus stacks with everything and works almost exactly like the Defense bonus in d20 Modern. It has worked great and doesn't unbalance the game at all. I haven't adjusted the...

Mac OS X and main page problems

No Clue Hey Sean, I'm using almost the exact same configuration as you are (Mac OS X.3.5, Safari, etc) and I'm definitely not having the same problem. By that, I would guess that it's just a setting that's turned on or off and not the OS itself. Try dumping your cache and reloading the page...

Dungeon Magazine: New Format, New Subscription Price

Dungeon is saved! Hey Erik, I absolutely LOVE the new Dungeon. I'm a long-time Greyhawk fan, I never really followed Polyhedron anyway, and I'm a die-hard D&D player so all the changes work perfectly for me. IMO, this is the best the magazine has been in years. The ONLY issue I have with the...
