Need critique for my combat system

So you know, when I was originally sketching up this system I pictured characters as typically having less BDB than BAB. The rationale behind this was than in the point buy character creation system I use (Buy the Numbers), HP are fairly in expensive, and BAB is expensive. Since HP doesn't exist...

Need critique for my combat system

Just the fact that you're awesome, and that you deserve my praise for your tenacity in attacking the system :D Thanks a bunch! One possible way to simplify the wound penalty system is to say "-1 to Physical checks, attacks, and grapple for each wound". Might oversimplify things, though.

Need critique for my combat system

Obviously, the answer here is that her master was a badass. You're saying he did a one-legged wall sit, without the wall, for the entirety of the work day? That's crazyinsaneawesome. However, your point is still valid. In general, people's legs are bigger/tougher than their arms. But I never...

Need critique for my combat system

Yes, that's supposed to be BDB. :) I appreciate you testing it out :-) Understand that these groups are designed with the purpose of being rather simple, intuitive, and promoting narration. So, I would suggest running one battle with a set of characters under d20, then running the exact same...

Need critique for my combat system

Admittedly, I haven't run this yet. And, yes, there are several numbers to keep track of that weren't there before. However, the entire mechanic is literally one roll versus another roll. As a defender, you need to know three defense rolls: versus piercing, versus slashing, and versus crushing...

Need critique for my combat system

I run a heavily modified d20 game, and I've started to overhaul the combat system. What do you folks think of the rough draft below? For context, I use the Buy the Numbers system, which means there are no classes. Players purchase abilities/skills/feats/etc. directly with XP. In addition, I use...

    What do I run?

Exactly. So, it sounds like nobody immediately has something that fits well, as written. If anyone else has an idea, be sure to let me know. In the mean time, maybe I should focus on honing my own game into exactly what I want. I'm still trying to get the numbers on combat to work out right...

    What do I run?

Well, I'm still manipulating the combat attack/wounds system, but it was inspired heavily by Shadowrun and Grim n Gritty. I've read both of these, but only ran Shadowrun. I've read -about- GURPS, but have yet to -read- GURPS. Basically, any system that I would like to run would have to have a...

    What do I run?

Over time, I have developed a truly stunning amount of house rules. At this point, I'm really not playing D&D at all. Now, whenever I get a new player, I have to say "We're playing D&D, but this and this and this and this are all different". I'm interested to see if there's a published system...

Using your PDA at the game table

As a DM, I use my laptop for EVERYTHING, thanks to PDFs and DM's Familiar. It is literally the only thing I bring to the game table. A few of my players also bring laptops to the table, but only for references to rules. One or two of them own PDAs, but they've never brought them to the table.

D&D mega-campaign with all the options turned on?

Have you checked out the Banewarrens? I'm not certain that it particularly -lends- itself towards the kitchen sink, but it definitely doesn't work -against- it. It's set in Ptolus, too!

D&D mega-campaign with all the options turned on?

Do keep in mind that if you have any munchkins or rules lawyers, you may be toast. Take a gander over to the Character Optimization board on the WotC site. http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=160415 Using just two or three books, you can create a character with -infinite- (literally) for...

DM Program + RttToEE or Banewarrens

I'm starting a campaign that will be melding Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil with the Banewarrens (replacing the Crater Ridge Mines). Since I have a large group (9 players), I'd like to use some software for managing combats. When I ran RttToEE a few years ago, I used DM's Familiar...

    9 players. Help.

I do use a battlemat, it's about 2x4 feet. I'll probably be using that and a little bit of maps thrown up on the TV via my laptop. I can't imagine using graph paper like you describe! It's so -tiny-! :D

    9 players. Help.

Simple magic....yeah...did I mention we're using Elements of Magic? Yeah.... :D The only people who are playing magic users are people who have played before, though, and they're taking to the system well. Creating spells is entirely their responsibility, so it gives them something to do during...

    9 players. Help.

So, I've created a new RttToEE/Banewarrens campaign with some of my friends. And by "some" I mean "nine." I'm looking for help in how to run this sucker effectively, but let me give you some background, in case it will help. Everyone in the group, including me, lives on the same floor of a...

    Beefed up combat

So I'm starting a new campaign with a mix of new and old players, and after a short "introduction to D&D" adventure, many of the players asked if there was any way we could make the combat more realistic, more complex. Now, this was coming from people who have never played D&D before or...

    RttToEE vs. Shackled City

In terms of "one shots," I doubt we'll actually play like that. It will be more of picking up the same continuous story. While I obviously don't think dropping and picking up mid-combat is very sensical, we won't have any problem leaving looting the bodies until whenever we next play. I'm sure...

    RttToEE vs. Shackled City

So I'm going to be starting a new campaign here at college, and I'm looking for something that I can run at the drop of a hat. The group members are all friends that I live with (college dorm), so this would be a "whenever" type of game that we can play at the spur of the moment on a Thursday...

    Post your best PC secrets!

I was dead. A few months prior to the start of this campaign, my character's family had died in a house fire. My character recalled being hit on the head by a falling timber, being dazed, then dragging himself out of the house. In reality, he had just died from a broken neck, but was...
