Paladin breaks word - appropriate atonement

Tonight my paladin character realized he had broken his word, in both spirit and letter. Okay no big whoops, I mean nothing harmed but nonetheless he will need to atone. So anyway what are some good atonements for oathbreaking? Thanks :)

So how do you play cohorts, familiars and animal companions?

I'm currently playing a DMPC for just 1 more session, but we're talking about his cohort & co - he has a wizard cohort, her familiar and his called mount... Quite a bit eh? :D The mount is typically called for 2 reasons, aerial scouting and night-time guard duty. A pegasus has good enough spot...

What prestige classes have genuinely added quality to your game?

We've only actually seen the Assassin & Blackguard in 3 year play. They've been good additions btw.

Uncanny Dodge - Flatfooted vs. Denied Dex to AC

We play that uncanny dodge only works in the stated circumstances - which happen to occur the most frequently anyway. So we play that it means jack when climbing, grappling (vs outside attacks), etc... Btw, I don't think running loses the dex anymore?

Rules in 3.5 that need fixing and what you'd do to fix it.

Having thought a bit more about this subject a bit more, I've decided I really don't enjoy fixing rules at all. :( I don't like fixing my car, fixing this or fixing that. I'd much rather have someone more professional do all that. This is the philosophy of my workplace too, we have our core...

Rules in 3.5 that need fixing and what you'd do to fix it.

Let me see now... Okay, these are rules that have caused real friction when they appear in our game, so we fixed them. 1) The animated shield caused the sword & board players to revolt, so they became dancing instead. 2) Swallow hole 'muscular action'.. he he, yeah well we just chuckled at...

    Evil PCs?

Somehow they go nuts. I reckon it has something to do with having 'evil' written on their character sheet. The player tries to play a hard-edge antihero but at some point they have a brainfart. A hairbrained opportunity for doing evil comes up and they fail to resist the temptation to do it...

How often do PCs make an orderly retreat?

Our group does manage orderly retreats and I'll take the credit for that thank you very much! :D Basically you have to do it one round before you need to and that imo is the difference between retreat and route. In our current game, typically my character will call retreat and because we're...

    Supplement Issues

As I read the wraithstrike thread in the rules forum, I realized my reason for not using books of supplements. One serious muck up, in my mind, contaminates the entire supplement. You see, I'm lazy when it comes to my leisure hours. Doing (non-chore) work during this time is twice as...

Best rules that game designers have made?

The stat scale. Seriously, I bought 3e on impulse as soon as I saw that a 12 gave a little bonus and a 9 a little penalty... Thought about gathering a group afterwards. :) Oh yeah, Paladins. :o They made the Paladin class just right for a Paladin lover. Cleric domains and spontaneous...

Worse Rules that game designers have made?

You never can really tell what the majority think. Good polls take exceptional skill to craft and extreme views tend to be over represented in threads. I'm fine enough with the rules as they are. The idea of house ruling and tinkering away just strikes me as a terrible bore - and much worse...

    Villains who do foolish things?

I make my villains foolish in some regard, it is so much more well rounded. Mind you I do the same with my pcs. If they weren't foolish there'd be no adventures - everyone would be raising families, working and enjoying life. ;) That's real nice for real life but heroes sort of require a queue...

*Why* full round metamagic for socerers?

Yes we have this experience too. Otoh, terrain and mobility seem to be the partial answer. It would be very interesting to hear the experiences from one of the playtesters who saw a quicken sorcerer in action.

How would you classify "Good by any means neccessary"

People tend to have an easier time doing bad things when there are there are layers of detachment - a switch being just one.

How would you classify "Good by any means neccessary"

Slaying a past evil leader is not so simple. You need to weigh up the good that also came in the aftermath, i.e. war being unthinkable for the rebuilt nations. A time traveller would need the wisdom of Solomon to weigh up the legacy in full. A world history is an intricate beast and a D&D time...

*Why* full round metamagic for socerers?

Agreed. Actions are the premium resource - nothing is as valuable. The mid level+ Sorcerer would increasingly overshadow if they were continually banging off 2 spells per round when they needed to.

How would you classify "Good by any means neccessary"

Well no good deed goes unpunished. The person that abstains from evil may do so for many reasons. In the above contrived case they may end up suffering much more because of their morality - it could be their loved ones that get it in the neck. There are plenty of people that put their personal...

Is there any real world analogue to the Adventurer?

Touché I defer to the Greenslime's wisdom for this discussion.

    Wand "Charges"?

 Yeah, I guess we'd find a compromise if someone wanted to play this sort of character. That wouldn't be too hard I'm sure. :)

Is there any real world analogue to the Adventurer?

Yeah, he's a good successful example. It did help that he was groomed and had an inheritance, but that played probably only half a part. Backpacking travellers and in the field scientists are other examples of adventurers.
