Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

Dale, Understand, I'm a Pathfinder player, not 4e. My sympathies are on the side of the PFRPG 3PP folks. And yet, Matt's question sits there awaiting an answer. (If I may try to summarize it, please correct me if I'm wrong in it Matt) Why should Wizards care what 3pp companies are doing...

    Why I'm done with 4e

Wow, that isn't even close to what he wrote. He said there was a lot of "bloat" in 3e (and gave the example of more and more prestige classes), but by pruning things down to the essentially the core of 3e by going close to the core 3 books ("the core system"), but in his opinion that wasn't...

great NYT Op-Ed piece on Gygax

Adam spoke to NPR's Talk of the Nation yesterday - great interview and I recommend listening to the show. http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=5&prgDate=3-10-2008

Seeking Gamers in Baton Rouge, LA

Uh, that post was over five years ago. April 2002, I remember it well. The long, hot days, humid enough for lesser creatures to scurry and boil. People still spoke in awe at Fellowship of the Rings. D&D was still something of an experiment, with only 118 supplements and adventures out...

    Q on Scarred Lands

The Divine and the Defeated. Truly no one book does it - there's nothing equivalent to the FR Campaign Setting, so you have to get bits and pieces from each book. That said, The Divine and the Defeated is probably the best introduction to the setting and tone, in lieu of an actual book that...

What's the biggest RPG product ever?

I think font size should count. WLD has a lot of pages sure, but when you couple that with the tiny font and small borders and you have more product than say any of its competitors that I've seen.

For those using counters or cardstock tiles

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I thought I'd share a suggestion for those of you using paper/cardstock counters or dungeon tiles or maps that may help make them more durable and "feel" better when using. Floor tiling. You can go into just about any department store with...

Ghostwind, I'll take a read (and review) of it. It won't be until the weekend before I can read and write a review, though.

    Mortality Radio

That context I have no problems with it - it's when used to generically refer to any such downloadable broadcast that I dig in my heels. Still - huzzah to Apple for creating the next Xerox.

    Mortality Radio

Podcast is just an (annoying) term that refers to a broadcast you download and play - whether on a computer, portable music device, or the like. So yes, you can download and listen to them on your computer. And please think of the children before using the term "podcast".

What were the FotR's magic items?

The swords carried by the hobbits may or not have been magical, but the one carried by Merry was specifically enchanted to slay the King of Agnor by Agnor's enemies (whose leaders were buried in the barrows). Thus a sword enchanted to slay the Witch-King (who became the leader of the Nazgul)...

    Evaluation of 3.5 Rule Changes.

Or perhaps you're not considering man-hours? If Gary had 6 groups who spend 5 years and WotC had 30 spending 2, theoretically that's about the same, no?

Large size creature grappling a medium provoke AoO?

I understand the rationale, but I think two things: 1) D&D combat is supposed to have an element of abstraction. 2) A Large or larger creature is typically going to have less of their vital bits in range than a Medium or Small creature.

Large size creature grappling a medium provoke AoO?

From the SRD: Initiating the grapple doesn't provoke, attempting to maintain it does, but not from the grapple target.

Large size creature grappling a medium provoke AoO?

Hi gang, A fellow player and I got into a disagreement over the following scenario: A L sized creature is 10' away from a medium sized creature who lacks reach (and thus only threatens 5'). He maintains that if the L sized creature (lacking Imp. Grapple) attempts to grapple the M creature...
