Why did you stay with an earlier edition?

The Poll doesn't fully capture my position but its close. The poll suffers because if you have gone through multiple upgrades, you might have different reasons during each upgrade. 4e made some improvements, but it also has some drawbacks compared to previous rule sets. Investment, whether...

<options snipped> I think you provided a great summary. I agree with your way of looking at things.

D&D 3E/3.5 Why the change in DR from 3.0 to 3.5

A more likely scenario is that the Dragon ignores the 50 archers that made their saves against fear. The Dragon pursues and uses his breath weapon on the 950 archers that failed. Because the 950 archers are running full speed (x4) away from the dragon, they are also running away from their...

D&D 3E/3.5 Why the change in DR from 3.0 to 3.5

I think 3.5 was a major improvement with regards to the special materials. I don't see much of a difference between the +1/+2/+3 vs. magic, especially when you consider that Greater Magic Weapon was a default spell for games at 5th level and above in 3.0. I like Demons and Fey being worried by...

To Heal or Not to Heal

Spell casters who can heal should be able to have fun, not be forced into providing healing.

WotC announces 'Rise of the Underdark' campaign

Its not based on incompetence. I suspect its a business decision based on profit margin. Due to print run size, they probably earn tremendous profits on the core rulebooks. Everything else is tiny.

Killing a Wizard is Easy... if you know how.

Sorry I was referring to the previous poster's comment that he sees most challenging combats being up to the wizard to defeat.

Why Games Workshop is not a good business

My brother managed a store for GW in the 90's. I've never worked for them, but I have bought some of their products dating back to the 80's. I like GW's products. It has been ten years or so since I've been in a GW store, but I thought their stores were great. GW has the book recycle problem...

To Heal or Not to Heal

I think that is where I'm leaning. I would like a system that did not have in-combat healing.

    More Mythic Dragons

I like land (non-flying) dragons, dinosaurs, hydras, etc. I usually look at non-flying dragons as an encounter that the party will slay. Flying dragons are invincible creatures of destruction that the party should flee from; if they fight, they should expect to lose at least one party member.

Killing a Wizard is Easy... if you know how.

I see it as an issue of accounting. If I force the player to give me a copy of his memorized spells every time he rests, its likely the spell list will be nearly identical every time. On the other hand, if he only writes his spell list down one time, he is more likely to make changes. With...

I voted stout hairy feet for halfings. We already have skinny gnomes for skinny small people.

    DM or GM?

wow, I'm surprised by the poll results. I figured it would be GM in a land-slide, and its actually DM in a land slide. I think GM makes more sense since some adventures do not take place in a dungeon, but all adventures take place in a game. Plus I never liked the DM from the D&D cartoon.

To Heal or Not to Heal

I don't want a party to be forced to have a cleric (or a member of any other class). I don't want clerics (or other magical healers) to be forced to use up their cool spell slots on healing spells. While I'm ok with the party without a cleric having a harder time fighting undead, I don't want...

Killing a Wizard is Easy... if you know how.

Are wizards powerful? sure. The key is to avoid wizards being the equivalent of Gandalf while the rest of the party is the equivalent of the thirteen dwarves from the Hobbit. And that level of power disparity should not happen if the melee classes and the wizard classes are approximately the...

WotC announces 'Rise of the Underdark' campaign

What I would really like to see is lots more battle maps instead of reprints. I'm kind of annoyed at WOTC for re-releasing the same battle maps I just bought four or five years ago. That said, I like what Gale Force 9 is doing. Making the battle maps erasable is a good idea.

The preview video is ok. Its not quite the voice I would imagine for this particular goddess of evil. But still, its better than nothing.
