The Original End Goal of Dungeons & Dragons

A small plug: The 'Adventurer, Conqueror, King System' (Autarch) gives extensive rules on purchasing strongholds/armies and advancing into this "named" phase of the game.

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

Frank's work in forming our hobby is undeniable. And he's assemble a great team for this project. But apart from the nod to Greyhawk, what sets this campaign world apart from all the other Fantasy 'heartbreakers'? For me, there are so many 'High Fantasy' worlds on the market already, that...

D&D 5E Tomb of Annihilation - how's it going so far?! **spoilers**

I thought the same thing Burnside. There might be a whole contingent of people (factions?) that may not want to Curse to end. Perhaps this could be a whole new nemesis of encounters in the jungle: people trying to stop adventurers from succeeding. Myself, I've also framed the adventure in my...

D&D 5E Tomb of Annihilation - how's it going so far?! **spoilers**

I completely agree. I'd buy something like that off DMs Guild if it were available. Especially if it added little details that the adventure left out: for example, how long does it take to sail from Waterdeep or Baldar's Gate to Chult/Port Nyanzaru?

D&D 5E Tomb of Annihilation - how's it going so far?! **spoilers**

I have a plot question for the boards: At the start of the adventure Syndra Silvane directs the PCs to Chult, saying the origins of the curse is there. While the adventure doesn't explain how she know this, the DM'sGuild adventure "Cellar of Death" explains that a Lich (Zaldara) had...

Cower In The Shadow Of The Demon Lord

We have played a campaign spanning 0-level to 10th (max). Our impressions: - It plays a lot like D&D 5e to us, with a smattering of Warhammer FRPG thrown in (loads of classes to choose from/advance into). - Players loved how they could choose 'spell lists' to learn/specialize in. - It even...

"Red Box" Developer Frank Mentzer To Produce Empyrea Setting For D&D

Something for my beloved Red Box.... I'm IN!

    Recontriving The Ring

I personally like 'words' and their historical definitions in rpgs. What I dislike are games that take all those common terms and invent new words for them. It is like learning a new language and makes the rules obtuse for no good reason. New words for things like Hit Points, Feats, Skills...

Esper Genesis : 5E Sci-Fi Art Sneak Peak and Gen Con Plans...

During the Kickstarter I played the free offering: Esper Genesis, Fall of Eos Keldor. My impressions: the 5e rule set fit seamlessly and it seemed like a great fit. Only the starship battle component seemed a little 'clunky'. Hopefully it has been refined since that initial offering.

How I Learned To Stop Worrying About Game Prep

I also like to think a GM should know the players. What motivates them? Story? Combat? Intrigue? You can choose a system you (the GM) loves, but if all the players hate the system (or genre) your game will be a flop - no matter how short the prep time is. If the players love the game, they'll...

Trudvang Chronicles Preview Part 2 - Rules

The Combat capacity/combat points along with active parries, reminds me of RuneQuest.

Games Workshop And Cubicle 7 Announce Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 4th Edition

HawaiiSteveO: The world is much more dark & gritty than traditional RPGs. Magic can have dire consequences (both in flavor and through game mechanics). The game is famous for having a very robust "career path". E.g. a 'Rat Catcher' can graduate to a 'Soldier', then graduate to a 'Sargent at...

Games Workshop And Cubicle 7 Announce Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 4th Edition

Fantasy Flight Games puts out quality products. But I think their version (3e) of WFRP implemented several things that deterred new players: - $100 price tag on core boxed set - Specialty dice - Limited the amount of players in core set I hope Cubical 7 avoids these pitfalls.

Explore Mystic Worlds With The Hero's Journey

Has anyone played this game? Can you speak to the balance? For example, the classes are limited to 3d6 HPs (3rd-level) plus +1 or +2 each level thereafter. So an average 5th level fighter might have 15-17 HPs. Yet spells like fireball still do 1d6/level. This seems to make spells even more...

    Roll20 Hits 2 Million Users!

I think in the future, publishers will do themselves a disservice if they don't offer their adventures in the traditional media (hardcover and .pdf) as well as a Virtual Table Top file.

New Releases In Stores This Week : 9th January 2017

A few of these have been out for months now (e.g. the two 'Shadows of the Demon Lord' titles and the Lord of the Rings title), as pdf's on rpg.now. Perhaps this article is referring to hardcover books being released to local gaming stores?

A Look At EN World's Stats & Demographics

RPG Crowdfunding News 030: Shintiara, Harlem Unbound, The Road to Heaven, Sci-Fi RPG Modular Rooms,

I don't usually play Collectable Card Games, but that Traveller game looks very well suited for that genre. Even if you don't play the game, I'm guessing the card decks would work great for random events in any space game (e.g Paizo's upcoming Starfinder).
