    How's Your Time Spent?

With my group, we have 4 DMs, so there is usually enough time between turns to develop things. I start out, oddly enough, with the idea of the first adventure, and then figure out where the campaign can go from there... then I flesh out the first mission with respects to how it fits into the...

What Kind of D&D Character Would You Be?

The funny part about this is that I didn't come up with it myself... I did some training as a sniper when I was in the Marine Corps.... Ah, yes... it is all beginning to fit together, now.

What Kind of D&D Character Would You Be?

According to this, I am a 6th level NG Gnome fighter... OK... just one small challenge: Ability Scores: Strength- 10 Dexterity- 15 Constitution- 13 Intelligence- 15 Wisdom- 15 Charisma- 16 How in the name of Thor's Holy Hammer would I make it to 6th level as a fighter with only 10 STR?????

D&D 4E Which race will get the uber treament in 4e?

I have always wanted to see the humans become more than just the "default" race that everything is based upon. Oh, sure, 1ed gave them unlimited levels... which was given to all other races anyhow. And 1ed allowed the humans to be any class they wanted... which the other races were allowed...

    A new setting contest?

I am actually waiting for said event. I began working on my design about a year ago with the intention of publishing it for 4ed, 3.xed, 2ed, and OSRIC. I have the basic setting researched, and now just need to fill in the various differences to make them all complete.

What's been your longest break from playing RPGs?

I actually took a pretty major break from gaming. It wasn't for lack of interest, but rather from lack of a group. My last game with one group was in 1990. I didn't start again until 1994, and then took a break from 1995 until 2005, when I was introduced to my current group.

Anyone had a paladin Fall and then dropped the PC?

Yeah, you just gotta love players that view paladins as infallible fighters with all the neat trimnmings, yet no restrictions. I was running a classic dungeon crawl that I had written for a bunch of people, including my regular group, and a 2ed group that we were teaching 3.5 to. The group had...

    GenCon

I was talking to my friend, and she said to thank you all for the... interest... however, she is happily connected to someone, and would like to stay that way. She still invites you to stop at the desk and say "hello" if you are rooming at her hotel.

    GenCon

Now, I never said she understood the mind of a gamer. ;) While I was a gamer when we were together, she never quite understood, nor did she care... She asked me if I was going to be there for GenCon; however, I am unable to attend due to employment obligations... I did tell her that she needed...

    GenCon

For all of you who are staying at the Marriott Downtown across the street from the convention center for GenCon, be sure to stop at the front desk and tell Debbie (night shift) what a great time you are having, and tell her that the mighty (or not so mighty) Lord Ipplepop sent you. She is an old...

Anyone had a paladin Fall and then dropped the PC?

I have played a fwe characters that most would drop... one of them being a fallen pally. The scenario was that we (the party) inadvertantly assisted an NPC in robbing the money changer. The paladin fell (obviously), and I was forced to run him as a straight fighter on the atonement path. He died...

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

I have got to agree with you on this one. With 1ed, I could run the game without even cracking the DMG, or any of the other books. With 3.x, I am having a hard time getting behind the entire program. It is also really hard to run an adventure on the fly when the npc's have to have skill points...

DM's: how long does it take you to whip up an adventure?

I usually spend a few hours one day developing the storyline, and the various components of the adventure... then I go back a coule of days later, find the holes, make improvements, and actually write any NPC's or monster charts tht need to be done.

How do I deal with a rule lawyer?

I didn't read all three pages of this, so if it has been covered, please accept my humblest apologies. We had a rules lawyer in a 1ed game I was playing back when I first started. The players and DM's were always doing things wrong, and the rules stated this or that, or the other, and not the...

    Friends or Strangers...

My friends are actually pretty strange, so I guess I fit both categories... Actually, my current group started with me knowing one of the guys (who no longer games) and being introduced to the others, whom I had never really known before in my life (the one used to work at the local...

Your First Character and their impact

My first character didn't have a direct influence for me and my other characters through the years.... however, it DID have an indirect influence: My first character was a mage. It was 1978, and I had visions of being Gandalf, and causing the evil hordes to flee in terror at my (imagined)...

    Party of Three

One recommendation would be to have all of the players make gesault characters... with only three, this would definately give them an edge that they wouldn't otherwise have. We had to do it with the last group I was a part of, and it worked out pretty OK.

What size groups are you most comfortable DMing for?

6-8 experienced players is my "perfect" group.

What do you carry your stuff in when going to a game?

I have my dice in the ever trusty Crown Royal bag (although, the DM has his in a cloth Captain Morgans bag), and I usually don't carry anything else, except a pencil in my pocket. All of the books are at the DM's house, and the characters stay there between sessions. If we need to work on them...

    writing adventures

Many times, when I am in need of some inspiration, I actually look at the topic list in the DMG (pg 44). I choose one and go from there. As an example: #24. "New construction reveals a previously unknown underground tomb" OK, now... who is/was buried there? Well, #3 mentions a wizard's tomb that...
