One Monster in a Huge Dungeon

Give the players a reason to be there. Perhaps they are looking for something in the dungeon, thus they are compelled to search rooms, instead of waiting the monster out. Make the rooms interesting, both to search and to fight in. The same foe can fight differently in different terrains. A...

So, then, who inspired the guy with the conch for a head? :)

    Pirates of the Caribbean

Have any of you ever thought that maybe Davy Jones having an octopus for a head might have been inspired by just octopuses? You know, sunken ship, sea creatures, its an easy connection to make without refence to Lovecraft or Gygax.

They'd revoke my D&D gamer license if they knew....

Ah, you're talking about what D&D terms a "mighty" bow (D&D limits this to only composite bows; technically, self-bows can also have increased poundage, though recurve-bows gain more benefit from it). That's less about technique, and more about upper body strength. Actually, requiring a feat to...

It doesn't take years to learn to use a longbow; it takes years to use a longbow well, but that's true of anything. Sure, guns and crossbows are easier to pick up, but the longbow isn't more difficult to learn than a sword or axe.

They'd revoke my D&D gamer license if they knew....

Why? On a related note, I dislike the term "exotic weapon" when what they really mean is difficult or unusual in use. And monk weapons that aren't all that exotic: dammit, a kama is a sickle, a nunchuku is a flail, and a siangham is used just like shortsword.

I love levels. Classes, I could take or leave. XP, I never bother with anymore.

    Pronouns

Race is different because you inevitably have regional variations. The 50/50 gender split is universal. As a writer, I prefer WotC's method of alternating gender by sections. However, I'm got no problem with a neutral he, if the product has a fair number of female characters, because that...

    Role Playing products that failed

No, but one of the actors/characters was Wally Shawn who was in the Princess Bride with Andre the Giant. He was also in Starting Over with Kevin Bacon. Which makes Andre the Giant 2 degrees from Kevin Bacon. P.S. Andre the Giant has a posse.

    How do you pronounce "Kyuss"?

I voted 1 syllable, but really 1-1/2. I pronounce the 'ky' like the 'kj' in Kjeldor. (Maybe refernecing another fictional name isn't the best way to go?)

Roleplaying high INT and CHA with low WIS

Malcom (in the Middle). Smart and eloquent enough to get himself into a good situation, too short-sighted to keep himself there.

    Variant Deck of Many Things

When you start a campaign at mid or high level, after everyone comes to the table with their streamlined character builds, make them draw at least one card from the deck.

What do you call arcane magic users?

'Poisoner' ('Veneficorum' in Latin) is the classical/biblical term for non-divine spellcasters.

    I don't understand beguilers

Having played a non-blaster sorcerer, I certainly think the game could use a dedicated non-offensive arcane caster. Beguiler is defintely a step in the right direction, but I'm bothered by the way it steps on the toes of the B&E rogue.

Which DND God would you worship?

Sure, she's 90% naked chick, but wouldn't the other 10% pinch? Can I vote Bleak Cabal? (Yes even in a fantasy world where gods are demonstrably real, I'd still be a secularist. Gods are too damn needy.)
