"enter your reach" and polearm mastery

How does the text in polearm mastery about "enter your reach" work with cover? Assume a reach weapon is being used. If a creature was 10 feet away but behind full cover and then steps so that it no longer has cover (at either 5 feet or 10 feet), does that trigger an opportunity attack...

D&D 5E legal staff and shield for hexblade?

I'd not thought about the dual weapon vs staff and shield thing before. I think that's a good point. The only things I'd really point out is that: with the feat, shouldn't it be d8 for both weapons? with dual weapons, you can use Dex rather than Str. In some cases that's a huge advantage...

    D&D 5E Melee Barbarian/Warlock

I rather like it. Probably my favorite 5th edition build at the moment, though depending on where hexblade ends up, I may just go with that (shield and staff and polearm mastery) or take a level of fighter in there (+2 damage on melee attacks and CON save profecency (for concentration) may well...

D&D 5E Monster Combat Card Tents

Looks great, though of course the pictures would be wonderful. Anyone have pointers to tents with pictures (don't really care where the pictures come from). Much prefer to have that...

D&D 5E legal staff and shield for hexblade?

So it sounds like the whole thing would work? Seems like a cool build other than AC problems. Might start as a fighter for medium armor prof, good con saves, and a few other benefits. 1st level will suck (STR 10, Dex 14, feat has to do with weapon he won't be using) but after that, looks great.

D&D 5E legal staff and shield for hexblade?

Hi folks, I want to check if the following is legal. Could I take a hexblade (playtest version at least), wield an arcane focus staff and a shield and still: Use Hex Warrior to add charisma for attack and damage Take full advantage of polearm mastery? Cast spells freely (no "item manipulation"...

    D&D 5E 3rd level pregens?

Hi folks, I'm considering running a short introduction to 5e targeted to kids aged 11-15 or so at a game con. I've got the adventure written (ran something like this for some kids at a gathering of friends a couple of years ago), but really don't have the time to make nice and easy-to-use...

D&D 5E Concentration spells over 10 minutes can be a pain in the a**

I go back and forth on this, but mostly I'll disagree. A warlock already does a ton of cantrip damage compared to other casters (assuming they take the CHR to damage power)--no one else gets to add their stat to every attack with a cantrip. And Warlocks _also_ have spells they can pull out--no...

Pathfinder 1E pounce, attack bonuses for charge, and changing targets

Hi folks, Quick pounce questions: If you charge with a pounce, do you get +2 to all attacks or just the first? Do all the attacks need to target the same creature or can you split your attacks? Thanks!

    D&D 5E Starting level

I generally run one-shots at 3rd level (which is the sweet spot for newer players IMO). But full games start at 1st (or 0 on occasion).

    D&D 5E some tweets

His ruling on Hunger of Hadar is certainly different than I'd have done. Nothing I see in the description makes me think devil's sight wouldn't work in it.

    D&D 5E Battlemaster Maneuvers - only 3-4 good ones?

Correct. I've done that more than once. It annoyed the DM because it was unclear to him how a non-magical attack with an arrow could knock a dragon out of the sky...

    D&D 5E Battlemaster Maneuvers - only 3-4 good ones?

Commander's strike: Very useful if you have a rogue as they get to use their reaction on your turn and thus can backstab again. Very very useful in that case. Otherwise occasionally useful (can't close and are a melee fighter for example). Disarming strike: Not sure if you can use a free...

    Caster feats

Let me first make the argument for why these aren't needed. Casters in a point-buy game almost never consider anything other than a stat gain until 12th level unless they are human. And by 12th level, casters are, IME, already on the overpowered side. So not needed. And... combat caster is...

    D&D 5E Fighters: a humble proposal

The thing is the extra ASI for a rogue becomes nearly useless at 10th level. Dex is almost certainly already maxed out and anything else is a very small improvement. I've yet to play a 5th ed rogue, but I think not giving them access to a feat at 10th level hurts them wrt the other classes a...

    D&D 5E Fighters: a humble proposal

This would actually make me _more_ likely to play a fighter. And (of course) a lot less likely to play a human. Cool idea. The one thing I'd add is letting rogues take a feat at level 10 (when they get a bonus) for much the same reasons.

    D&D 5E What will 5E D&D be remembered for?

Humm, I agree they are more subtle. But it's hard to be an effective party defender in 5e--your options are all pretty much all on the offense. Monsters can just ignore you for the most part. And that takes away a lot of the fun of 4e. And I'd say there are fewer solid options for...

    D&D 5E What will 5E D&D be remembered for?

I think 5e is the best edition so far. It has hit a nice point for being able to be fast, easy to run and fairly balanced. But it comes at a price: 4th edition had much more tactically interesting combats. 4th ed had much more interesting pure martial characters. 3rd edition had a lot more...

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

One question: by my reading of the rules/color text, studded leather would be a metal armor. Allowing studded, as indicated by his answer, is a very helpful upgrade. What do you all do with druids and studded? (As a side note, I really hate the druid armor thing as it is so different than...

D&D 5E Advice on Creating New Feat: Weapon Specialization

This is pretty similar to OP's ideas, but a bit more reasonable in terms of power, and a bit more color than static bonuses. ------------------- You are a true weapon master. You have dedicated yourself and poured your heart and soul into mastering a specific type of weapon. This practice...
