    Civilizing the Barbarian

You guys have many more ideas on this than I ever did. All I was looking for was a way to play a barbarian without him having the same tired background of coming from a distant tribe somewhere. I was thinking that a few minor modifications would turn the barbarian into a tough warrior type who...

Races of the Wild: All wizards will be elves now

I must have misread it. One bonus spell of the highest level doesn't bother me so much. It's nice, but not the same as all the benefits of specialization with none of the drawbacks like I was thinking.

Races of the Wild: All wizards will be elves now

Has anyone noticed in Races of the Wild, the 1st-level racial substitution level for elf wizards allows them to have a bonus spell of each spell level, like specialist wizards, only of any school? And guess what they give-up in exchange for this extremely nice ability: The ability to...

    Druids and Wild Shaping

There's an epic feat that allows wild shaping into dragon form.

    Civilizing the Barbarian

I just mean coming from civilized lands, not that they are master diplomats. Berserkers learn to fight recklessly by releasing their anger as a fighting style, that's all.

    Civilizing the Barbarian

This was inspired by the "Genericizing The Monk" thread. For those who like barbarians mechanically, but don't think that they should all be uncivilized warriors from a distant land, how would you change the barbarian class to reflect this? Here are the changes that come to my mind: New class...

    How to increase spell ability

Not sure how I'd rework this class to increase its spellpower, but I just have to say that the prestige class problem for non primary casters bothers me as well. It ends-up being a rip-off getting one of these prestige classes if you're anything other than a cleric, druid, sorceror, or wizard...

    Any viable halfling fighter builds?

Thanks everyone. There were a lot of cool (and funny) ideas in this thread.

Bard Creation Guide? (Or should I create something else?)

Maybe I'm wierd, but I like the idea of a dwarf bard, especially if you want to make a more meele-capable bard. It might be worthwhile to take 1 level of fighter for the feat, martial weapons and armor proficiencies. This will also let you use the dwarven waraxe one-handed due to weapon...

    Quick xp question

The whole group, same as if the ranger downed a CR 5 creature himself while scouting ahead of the party.

    Any viable halfling fighter builds?

Oh, and gnome ideas are also welcome, but this seems even more unlikely. The CON boost is nice for living longer, but they have the same problems with size and strength, without the advantages with DEX and thrown weapons. Also, it's irritating that they have weapon familiarity with a weapon...

    Any viable halfling fighter builds?

I'm just curious if there's any way to make a halfling fighter be worthwhile compared to any of the medium races. I'm guessing no based on their strength penalty and the decreased weapon damage for small weapons, though. It seems like the only advantage the halfling would have would be with...

    Combining NPC classes from DMG

I can't remember the name at the moment, but there's a feat that allows arcane spellcasters to choose a cleric domain, provided they choose a domain of a diety they worship, and are of the same alignment. Spells from that domain may then be learned/cast like any other arcane spell, except that...

    Cleric with no spells

I assume you mean the god has gone quiet? It's hard to imagine how to balance a cleric without the spells. I suppose you could make her a fighter, and just say she is/was a priestess of Lolth, but doesn't get spells anymore. Other than that, maybe she gets spells from another source, such as...

Fair trade? Rogue's sneak attack for bard spellcasting progression

The spell list looks pretty good. The only one I'd take out at first glance is Baleful Polymorph; I really don't think this fits at all. The normal Polymorph fits, though; new forms could be extremely handy when spying or the like.

Fair trade? Rogue's sneak attack for bard spellcasting progression

Okay Crothain, you've at least partially convinced me: if I do a write-up for my version of this variant rogue, I'll cut-out the special abilities at levels 13, 16, and 19. It's at later levels that the spells start to get more potent, anyway. For 10th level, I'd make the special ability...

Fair trade? Rogue's sneak attack for bard spellcasting progression

I don't think you're putting enough value on the bardic music ability. It's not just one ability, but 9 seperate abilities at various levels that use the same mechanic.

Has anyone created stats for a half elf/half orc?

Yeah, they may be reckless because they are despised by their parent races, and everyone else is disgusted by their mere existance. Definately barbarian makes sense as a favored class, since no society anywhere would likely accept them. I might throw in a -2 to diplomacy and gather info checks...

Has anyone created stats for a half elf/half orc?

I'd make the ability modifiers different: say +2 STR, -2 WIS. Orcs have a penalty to INT, WIS, and CHA, so any of these could show-up in a hybrid decendant.

    More Beholder Issues/Questions

I remember hearing (but I don't remember where) that caster level is unaffected when you advance a monster like this. I don't think the -2 to hit with eye rays is a big deal in this case, since it's a ranged touch attack anyway, and balanced by the extra hit points and better AC.
