How can I make a PDF without Acrobat?

OpenOffice will do pdf. No clue on how easy/hard it is to do good layout with it, as I've never tried, but I know it does pdf output.

    Database of Feats

If you're doing this in such a way that a query into the database returns a dynamically created webpage with one or more feats on it, you probably should include the OGL (in small type, preferably) at the bottom of the page. Most of that would be static, but you need to dynamically adjust the...

    D&D Must Buys

Grim Tales, by Badaxe Games, is really good. Dynasties and Demagogues, by Atlas under the Penumbra imprint, is good. I'm also fond of Fields of Blood, by Eden Studios. I'll also second Tome of Horrors. I'm not fond of the splatbooks, either by WotC or the Quintessentials series by Mongoose...

    Dundjinni and licensing dispute?

You know, if I have to create all the art packs for this just to create a map with it that I can sell, and it costs that much...I don't need it. They seem to want to protect their IP for fear they will lose sales. That protection has made me decide not to buy it. It backfired in at least my case.

    Gencon Role Call

I *live* in Indy, so I imagine I'll show up for at least a day. No specific plans yet. Aaron

List of known d20 character generators?

No need for an executable for my benefit - I have VB6. Other people might want it, so base it off their requests to decide if it's worth your time. Many thanks! Aaron

List of known d20 character generators?

Hi - I'm looking for a listing of known offline (not web-based) character generators. I already know about PCGen, RPM, Metacreator, e-Tools, DM Genie (and PC Genie), Campaign Suite, and RedBlade, so there's no need to mention them. If you know of others, please post a link to them. If anyone...

Help me find a template to slap on a rust monster

hmmm... How about half giant slug, or some other monster that has high DR against blunt weapons? Most edged weapons I can think of are metal, and most blunt tend to be non-metal. Not exactly a template, but an idea.

Pre Gen Con gaming (a few spots still!)

I *live* in Indy Bwahaha... Oh, wait, given the state of the economy here, maybe I should say "I'm *STUCK* in Indy"... Oh, and I don't game nearly as much as I used to. Not that I'm even relevant to this thread, but I thought I'd just rub in the fact that I live about 20 minutes from GenCon...

    Unearthed Arcana 3.5....where besides Kazaa?

Ua Ogc The real benefit to having an electronic copy of the OGC in UA is reuse. Whether someone scans it in or they type it in, or WotC adds it to the SRD, the benefit is to not have a lot of rules for the same thing that are just barely incompatible with each other. It is a benefit to the...

    an odd sort of question

It's not likely that they could sue you and win. They could take you to court as creating a derivative work and thus violating copyright, but not very likely. It's hard to make that kind of thing stick. Now if you had a word for word identical copy of what they wrote, then they could easily...

    SRD Question

Unless they explicitly state that it is open content, it isn't. You might be allowed to use it if you ask politely, but that still doesn't make it open. It just means you have permission. Aaron As always, IANAL.

    (Mongoose) Paranoia XP

Uh...it was *The Computer* that said it's not d20... Methinks that means it *is* d20. :)

Question about OGC, Wizards, and such. From a new guy.

I think if you drop the "built according to WotC's rules" bit you'd be a lot better off. How exactly are you going to communicate to a buyer that you used that book without referring to it? I'd suggest removing all references to WotC products except those required by the d20 license (if you...

Badaxe Games - Grim Tales - Fall 2003?!

No questions here - it just sounds very highly cool. I've got my local game store perhaps a bit annoyed with my asking if it's here...and now I can stop pestering them for a while. They are grateful, I am sure. (I was worried it had come and gone, what with it being a small print run and...

When does a rule violate copyright/d20 license?

You might want to talk to Chaosium and WotC and see how much money changed hands for licensing before you assume the Cthulhu mythos is public domain. Sure, nothing's stopping you from making creepy-crawly things from beyond the understanding of mortal man, but if I were you I wouldn't call it...

What on earth is wrong with publishers these days?

Man, when Clark says he's not among the movers and shakers, maybe the thread should close and we should all just move along. Nothing to see here folks, move along, just a big freakin' train wreck, move along...

    Grim Tales limited print run?

...and then sell those copies *back* to the people that just signed 'em! (C'mon, you know they'd buy 'em!) :) Aaron

When to put a product on sale?

You know, it strikes me that a lot of this debate is based on the assumption that the author in question is being paid a flat fee per word. That's not always the case - some authors are paid a royalty, some are paid an advance on a royalty, some get both flat fee plus royalty, and on and on and...
