    Social Commentary

I used to subscribe to the lawful good paladin ideal when I ran my games. I must say, after reading Martin and listening to some of Gary’s (Gygax) takes on what is acceptable behavior for a paladin (ie killing a helpless infidel is perfectly okay), I have had a change of heart. No one has played...

same here. i wouldn't panic just yet. in all honesty, it is probably on backorder for us due to the deluge. if i have to wait a little longer, so be it. i'm not worried.........yet :)

Tell me about this Martin guy.

i haven't read it yet, but i think it's called "the hedge knight". and any fantasy fiction fan - hell, any fan of good fiction - needs to read this series. it's the most defining work for this genre since LotR. "A Song of Ice and Fire" is a masterpiece by a very, very good writer.

[OT] 17 years left. What to do?

Re: Attention Passengers: you devote a portion of your pay to a retirement fund. usually this is a mutual fund or group of mutual funds as risky or safe as you see fit. if you have a good employee, they will match your contribution up to a certain %. if you put in 6% of your gross pay...

    DMs: Are you a "plot-nazi"?

nein, mein fuhrer! no plot nazi here. :) i agree *gasp* with teflon billy, especially when it comes to NPC's. understand the motivations of the npc's and have them react to the changing world. this is key to the success of any campaign. have 4 or 5 fully fleshed out npc's, at least one or two...

[OT] If I read the term "crunchy bits" one more time...

when i first started cruising the old sight (early 2001), one of the earliest threads i remember was one entitled "people who quote monty python at the gaming table should be shot!". it was a lot of fun. anyone remember who started that one? anyway, i agree. throw "crunchy bits" in with "orc...

Dice from the Red Basic Edition Set

i still have 2 sets of baby blue and baby blue mixed with orange and yellow. i love those dice. the blue D20 is affectionately known as "widowmaker". it has 4 instant kills and numerous character deaths to its credit. when i die, it gets buried with me!

[OT] A Call for the Politically Minded

This thread discusses such things as abortion, the advisability of the death penalty, the process of amending the US Constitution, crime control, and the war in Afganistan. COULD THIS BE ANY MORE OFF TOPIC? ============================================= this was your response to my call for...

Anyone here use Soveriegn stone magic

i agree. much as the SS setting is interesting, i don't think i'm ever going to move my world there. but that magic system.... i think they stumbled onto something really, really good there. you can work in elemental magic in just about any fantasy world. they should combine all the magical...

[OT] The worst story ever written.

i got it after a few tries...... no, not very good. but try not to judge too harshly, every writer starts somewhere. if he were here i'd offer some constructive criticism. For one, don't use so many descriptives. i hope, as the person above said, that he continues to hone his skill and...

Anyone here use Soveriegn stone magic

Regrettably, that is correct. If you are going to do it, get both books. The system is repeated in the CM, but the basic spells are not. Therefore, if you just buy it, you end up not having the basic heal spells, basic fireball-type spell, etc. We will be implementing this in my birthright...

can we rethink the VIIIth amendment to the constitution?

and kicking! actually, even though some stuff has been brought up there's been no real flames. someone said earlier about the bad run of luck in utah. let me add that ted bundy did some handiwork in that state as did gary gilmour. there seems to be an awful lot of mayhem in utah for a state...

    Sex and the Single Jedi

good point. you and Lily open up a can of worms there! for a male jedi it's well, pretty damn easy. wam bam thank you ma'am. now female jedi....wow. do they develop an attachment to their children? certainly in human physiology most women do - before birth. why'd you have to go and ask that...
