    Just a couple of questions

Not at all. That name comes from LotR's where outsiders refer to hobbits as "halflings", but it isn't what hobbits call themselves. Basically since TSR couldn't use the name hobbit, they used halfling and it has been grandfathered into the game. There is no logical reason at all why a halfling...

    D&D 4E New 4E term "combat advantage"

    Sweet! This sounds fantastic.

    Just a couple of questions

Hehe! :D I hear what you're saying. But honestly, Dragonborn is fine as a description, it just sounds inappropriate. It's not quite a race name. (That's simply linguistics thing as far as I'm concerned) Golden-whatever on the other hand is outright stupid. I have players that will spend entire...

    Just a couple of questions

I can understand that. The game can and should be modified by each group. For someone like me, I modify lots of things, but to keep things easy to use I never modify the basic material (i.e. class abilities, race names, etc) because it confuses my less-than-rules-savy players when they are...

    Just a couple of questions

I would guess that the real beef people have with the name "Dragonborn" is that it doesn't sound like a name that an actual race would call itself. We call ourselves human, not "Sons of Men". Dwarves could have been "Mountainfolk" or "Stonechildren", but it has a better sense of reality to it...

    Just a couple of questions

I'll take a stab at this one. If I want a wizard in my game that lives as a hermet in the mountains and gained his powers by studying an old spellbook, he is not a "Golden Wyvern Adept" and is not part of any order. Such a heavy handed and wonky name gets in the way of things. I can honestly see...

Hey, WotC: Give Dwarves their Darkvision Back

I loved infravision myself, though I understand it was too mechanically wonky for play. However, darkvision has always rubbed me the wrong way. The whole 60 feet thing means that the creatures would always be walking around in a fog. How would drow look out over their cities? Besides faerie...

    Wis & Secondary Stats

So far we've seen Wisdom mentioned as a secondary stat of sorts for both Fighter and Wizard abilities. I really like this idea, and hope that all classes have a potential use for stats that are typically considered against the grain. We saw some of this in 3E with feats such as dodge or weapon...

D&D 4E Weapon Sizes must die in 4E

The only change in 3.5 I didn't like was the whacky stuff they did to weapon sizes. Small longswords and Medium longswords. Small greatswords and Medium greatswords. Needless overcomplication that only served to muddy up the weapon charts and confuse my players. I've never met another player...

    Swordmage Class

Yes there was, and I almost tore my hair out looking for it a couple of months ago until I realized it was removed from the 3.5 DMG. So I had to dust off my old 3.0 version for the rules. This leads me to believe that 4E will have no optional apprentice rules in the DMG to make up for this...

    Swordmage Class

I agree, but I honestly don't understand why. The way I've always seen it, the starting classes in the player's handbook should cover all the bases to allow at least the basic type of character you want to make. Most any idea can be fluff adjusted to fit into the basic classes of the PHB. But...

    Swordmage Class

YES! This was mentioned the most recent playtest: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drpr/20070907a&authentic=true I really, really, really hope this makes it into the Player's Handbook. It's always so frustrating to need to multi/prestige class to play the type of character I wanted in...

    New Design article: Elves

I would say it's more than semantics. Subraces always have the same basic racial abilities, with noted changes. From the looks of things, Eladrin and Elves will be totally and completely different, with a racial relation in fluff only. No actual crunch overlap.

    New Design article: Elves

Elain Cunningham on her blog recently said, "Although I don't know all the particulars, I was given enough information about changes coming to the Forgotten Realms to know what the future holds for Faerun's elves." So maybe for FR, the Sun Elves are going to become Eladrin or something like...

    Mundane Craft System

They have already stated that Magic Item creation will not require a feat or XP. Also, in SW Saga they consolidated the craft skills into "Repair" which could be used to craft, work on droids, or even ships. Perhaps they will do a similar method for 4E. A craft skill that allows you to crank...

    D&D 4E Familiars in 4E

See, now that sounds neat! Very much so infact. I want familiars will cool abilities like these. Not generic stuff.
