    for me the best way to make 5e feel like old editions (and I love both) is to limit races (no Dragonborn, tiefling etc) and limit classes and sub-classes. I’m still working on this but only elves can be eldritch knights, arcane tricksters etc. It mimics 1st edition multiclassing.

    PHB says 8th level Cleric for dwarven npcs. This was changed in Unearthed Arcana so dwarves PCs could be clerics, 13th level was possible for single classed dwarven clerics with 18 WIS.

    Melee clerics have been around since the beginning. And far more common than Paladins until recently. In 5e without extra attacks melee clerics really suffer.

    No, I’m taking issue with your statement that there was 'no significant market' for MERP. That’s obviously untrue given the amount of MERP books produced.

    MERP had over 100 sourcebooks/scenarios. It was printed in several countries, I myself started with the Games Workshop boxset, and multiple languages. Of course it wasn’t as big as D&D but to suggest it didn’t have a significant market is plainly wrong.
