Mounted combat - taking cover behind your mount

Well, it's powerful until the enemy kills your mount. ;) Then you have no mount and no cover. Honestly, after a round or two of them ducking, mounts would have become the targets. And besides, it's harder for the goblins to escape when they don't have a mount because they're slower.

    Flanking with yourself

Hm? What? My post says Duom. Look at it and see for yourself. See? D u o m. What? :p And, by the by, it's in the Arms and Equipment guide (originally 3.0) and was updated in the Dragon Compendium Volume 1, for those who weren't aware of the weapon.

    [Spell Compendium] Ray of Light

Well, unless you describe *something*, combats get very boring. "I rolled at 26!" "Miss." Yawn! Almost every piece of DM advice on how to make the game engaging is to describe what's going on...

"+1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class"

Yes, they're supposed to. Otherwise, Sorcerers or Bards wouldn't get new spells, but they do.

Summary of Spell Casting with a Shield?

Except that a caster can swap her weapon to her shield hand as a free action, cast a spell, swap the weapon back, and still make attacks of opportunities with the weapon afterward. So, there's no reason to lose the shield bonus, honestly.

Spell Trigger Items and Low Stats

Okay, the SRD has this to say about spell trigger items: Now, lets say I have a character (a Paladin) who has a Wisdom of 10 who aquries a Cure Moderate Wounds wand. Can she cast the spell from the wand? Normally, her WIS is too low. But, Spell Trigger items only require that the character...

    Grapple Checks and Natural 1

On the touch attack to initiate the grapple, yes. On the opposed roll, no.

    Magic missile too strong?

Except if you've got the Shield spell. Or a Brooch of Shielding. Or full concealment. Or Spell Resistance. Or Invisibility (or even better, Improved Invisibility). Or a Minor Globe of Invulnerablility. Or... Well, I think you get the point. It doesn't *always* hit. It's stopped by a simple...

    Sneak Attack vs. DR

I'm on the same page as the "roll all dice (including Sneak Attack)" and subtract that from the DR. If a rogue attacks something with DR 10/magic with a shortsword and rolls 6 damage, the DR isn't overcome. If the same rogue rolls 14 damage (including Sneak Attack) then 4 damage gets through...

    Grapple a mounted opponent

Actually, it's not even as complcated as determining the outcome and deciding the action in this situation. It's specifically presented in the rules.

    Tumbling

You only take double movement for the squares actually tumbled through.

    Grapple a mounted opponent

But, we're not talking about Improved Grab, and never were. Honestly, I don't know why Frank_the_DM even contributed that. Improved Grab has it's own rules that weren't part of the original question. We're talking about a scrubs trying to unmount a mounted character via Grappling. Which, as...

    Stirges.. Most broken monster ever.

If the dragon is sleeping, having 50 ranks in spot is just as good as having 0. Yes, once it's awake, it can take them off, but, if it loses initiative...

    Stirges.. Most broken monster ever.

If they surprise you, they can attach in the surprise round. If they beat your initiative, they can do their drain damage before you can get an attack in. If enough attach to you, and you don't have lots of attacks, you can't get them off fast enough.

    Stirges.. Most broken monster ever.

Okay. They're low CR.. They have 5 HP (on average). But, a flight of stirges (lets say 10-11) can theoretically take down a Great Wyrm Red Dragon in *one round* if they get the drop on it. They need to only make a touch attack to be able to do 1d4 con damage. They have an obscene hide check...

    Grapple a mounted opponent

The issue stems from the fact, I think, that there's *already* a method to dismount riders in the rules, via Trip. It doesn't seem Grapple, in any way, was designed to dismount a rider.

    Magic missile too strong?

Well, unless the party is fighting near the end of the corridor, they only have to be 25' away from where the fireball detonates to not be hit by it... So, actually, it's pretty easy to cast in a hallway and not get party members, unless the party doesn't work together well.
