In that case you should try to get a hold of the Thieves of Lankhmar sourcebook. It includes a detailed map of the thieves guild, plot suggestions, 2 adventures, enemies aimed at thief characters, and just general info on running a thief based campaign.

Due to the high powered nature of the Chess system I don't think the Civil War would be a proper setting for it. Maybe the sci-fi setting will work, but not a Historical based setting.
