EQ RPG: It's Your World Now...

It just occured to me:

There's always the chance that EQers will buy the thing with no intention to roleplay but rather to see if there are "hidden clues" in the PnP version. I don't have anything specific in mind here. But remember that the EQ strategy guide is a complete joke of a book and that -- to my knowledge -- there is no one place where you can buy all of the EQ maps. You have to get them from eqatlas.com or somesuch.

Just a thought.

To borrow a phrase, "Everyone must learn to crawl before they can run." :)

That's not necessarily the case. I learned to walk and (as it's just the act of walking really fast) to run before I learned to crawl.

What's even stranger are the product descriptions for Monsters of Norrath and the EQ GM's Guide. It mentions the D20 system all over the descriptions.

Read them here:

Maybe they are doing something similar to Eric's madcap scheme. Who knows? I would like to hear what kind of plans for the EQRPG the publishers have. Maybe we'll get lucky and one of them will stop by, or perhaps Morrus can set up a chat session with them.

Wow, am I the only one that liked the Diablo crossover stuff?

As far as not going d20 being bad for WotC, I don't really see it that way.

Let's say we've got somebody who is a new convert to table-top RPGs as a result of this. They play EQRPG for a while and find they want some new challanges. The EQmaster picks up the Monster Manual, looking for new stuff to kill. They see all kinds of spells listed there that they want rules for. They flip through the PHB and see all kinds of cool stuff they want to port to their EQRPG sessions. They buy a PHB. Then they want new treasures, traps, weather rules, whatever and discover them in the DMG.

It's not a real stretch to see an EQRPG fan wanting one or all three of these items to make their EQRPG better. Not to mention Oriental Adventures (don't know if there is an EQ equivalent or not), Manual of the Planes, Monster Manual 2, Epic Level Handbook, blah, blah, ad nauseum.

The simple fact is, if the game is not d20 and is based on 3e, WotC still produces the stuff that will be easiest to incorporate into that game. That's good for WotC.

And it contributes to the "network" of people who know common rules, which also helps D&D overall (at least in theory).

Forgive me if this issue has been raised already...

Does this mean we will be getting a new magic system? EQ uses a mana point system, not a spell-slot system...
