    D&D 5E How Old-School is 5th Edition? Can it even do Old-School?

I started out with the BECMI edition and when I have run 2nd Ed, 3E or 5E, I tend to try to DM in the same style that I developed all those years ago. That doesn't mean my style confirms to what other people accept as Old School though. Most notably, I am not overly concerned with the game being...

D&D General Veteran fans - did you think of Basic D&D and AD&D as completely different games?

While it is extremely easy to import things from one of these to the other, I have always seen them as separate games. As a huge fan of Basic D&D (or Classic D&D, as I prefer calling it), I have always felt that this game has a unique identity and feel of gameplay. This became especially clear...

D&D 5E Mystara Player's Guide free for download

Well written and comprehensive work. Love the illustrations and of course the incredible maps by Thorfinn Tait. Clearly this is the most complete treatsie of Mystara for 5th Edition out there. I also like that you have added your own expansions here and there to make it truly your own work...

D&D General Setting a campaign on a river

Cool idea. In river based adventures I have DMed and played in, we have often ruled that trying to steer a river boat at night is too dangerous, so they always have to dock for the night. In 5E, I might also rule that you need to set up camp on the banks in order to get a Long Rest. This...

D&D General Shadows of Mystara - References

Ka's appearance was in another game, Warriors of the Eternal Sun, was it not? Several specific locations in Darokin, Glantri and the Brokenlands are featured. Also Shadowelves were featured. Prince Malachie of Glantri appears in a Flying Ship at the end (Canon NPC). The weird train thing is...

Always good to see Mystara getting some love. Keep it coming! :)

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

While the Capcom Games are great fun (and largely compatible with canon even if they tweak a few things), Mystara has been directly referenced many times since then. Most recently in Goodman Games' OAR series and WotC 5E books like Ghosts of Saltmarsh which specifically talk about Mystara. I'm...

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

I am currently running a campaign set in Darokin using the 5E rules. We didn't really change the rules much so far. This is mostly exploration of wilderness and rural villages with various mysteries, sinister cults and the machinations of the Great Merchant Houses in the background. There may or...

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

Could not agree more! Which is why amazing fans have been creating new material for this amazing setting and kept it alive and fresh for 30+ years now. Much of that material is currently available at Pandius.com :)

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

Interesting. I had not considered that GMG and WotC might have been coordinating these two projects. Ghosts of Saltmarsh does name drop Mystara several times, along with a few other settings. Here is my complete(?) list of Mystara teasers in published material for the last three editions...

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

I agree with you about the likelihood of 5E Mystara. As to the OAC series, the Isle of Dread was not set in Mystara retroactively. That module was where Mystara first appeared in published form. The name was added much later of course, but that a different story :) Similary, Castle Amber was...

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

Don't forget that Goodman Games' Original Adventures Reincarnated series has reprinted, converted and expanded upon several Mystara locations and adventures and at least one book uses the name Mystara. I agree that Mystara for the DMsGuid would be sweet :)

D&D General UPDATE: this isn't greenlit : Jeff Grubb's Lost Mystara Sourcebook To Be Released

I am not involved directly, but I know a bit. Jeff Grubb posted more info about the contents of the document here: Mystara Redux I think that is when the ball started rolling. The document will be released at the 25th anniversary of the Vaults of Pandius. Exciting, isn't it? :) -Havard

D&D 2E Let’s Look At The Old Ravenloft Boxed Set!

Complain perhaps. :) But WotC have name dropped Greyhawk, Mystara and Spelljammer enough through 5E books, videos etc that some newcomers are going to be curious about them. This is how a much younger version of me discovered Blackmoor, through scattered hints here and there. -Havard

Dragonlance Dragonlance's Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Are Suing WotC for Breach of Contract

I hope they can find a way to resolve this which makes it possible for Weis/Hickman to publish this trilogy. I love the Chronicles and Legends novels and I would really like to see that the authors have planned. Oh, and we have had several Kender PCs in our campaigns and it was never a...
