D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Because there have been more words published about the halflings of Dungeons & Dragons over the last thirty-four years than everything Tolkien ever said about hobbits? Because there's room for a diminutive PC race in the game? People act like Tolkien's hobbits have been the be-all and end-all...

    D&D 4E The 4e PHB : Cheesecake Y/N?

You seem to assume, quite unnecessarily, that the "core look" for tieflings in Fourth Edition will automatically be the look for tieflings in the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and other established settings. It's no more reasonable or accurate to assume that than to assume that Eberron's drow were...

Chainmail Bikinis & other Cheesecake art in the 4th Edition Core Books.

Are you seriously suggesting that your pale-skinned, blonde-haired, blue-eyed "Amazon" lady there doesn't look wholly Caucasian? There's nothing about the facial structure or her other features to suggest she's anything other than Germanic. The strong jaw, in particular. Perhaps I'm confused.

Will Ravenloft require a significant revision to make it work?

None of these are difficult factors to deal with. They already had to deal with the "emergence" of sorcerers in Third Edition, yeah? There may well be an equivalent to the Third Edition dread necromancer base class into which Strahd could be fitted if the Fourth Edition wizard really, really...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

My family's last three dogs have been Keeshonden: They're also called Dutch Barge Dogs, because of their origin as guard dogs and living foghorns on Dutch river barges. So, all you need to do is put halflings on Keeshondback, and you're set. ;) I entirely agree.

    D&D 4E The 4e PHB : Cheesecake Y/N?

Yes, that's from Races & Classes. For comparison, a male dragonborn warlock:

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Since she loves the plump, homebody hobbits of earlier editions, shouldn't that be a doughy passion? Heaven isn't Faerie. ;) I mean, draw a long bow if you must, but it's not the same as magical elves who live in a fairy land alongside the mortal world. I, personally, was thinking of the...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

It seems to me that all the halflings have dreadlocks or cornrows, but then so too do all the male dwarves have neatly gathered beards contained and separated by rings and other jewelry . . . and the artist's notes make it clear that all of this art deliberately contains identifiable...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

I don't think it's particularly Tolkienised. Dungeons & Dragons has had "high" and "wood" elves for a long time, but the eladrin's strong association with arcane magic and the faerie realms of the Feywild is a far cry in practical terms from Tolkien's perfected humanity. They don't even live in...

    D&D 4E The 4e PHB : Cheesecake Y/N?

What in the world are you talking about? The warlock at the back is a tiefling. The fighter at the front is a human woman with sword-shaped decorations in her hair. Dragonborn look like this:

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

And if you're not racist, what exactly is the problem with halflings having dark skin and dreadlocks or cornrows? Hmm? Why does that bother you so damn much?

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

Conversely, I couldn't be happier that Tolkien's hobbits are dead and buried. They are the one thing more than anything else that feels like an unexcusable ripoff from Middle-Earth, and they simply do not belong in Dungeons & Dragons.

D&D 4E What happens to Eberron in 4E? Is it a dead world?

Nope. They're not advancing the setting past 998 Y.K.

That's awesome. Of course . . . the specific reference was that an elf might spend a year climbing Mount Keannor, so maybe it just has multiple particularly fun faces?

Well, I'm just typing up what I read. ;) Maybe it does! Or maybe they meant summer and autumn.

Having a hard time with including Dragonborn in your Campaign setting?

Races and Classes actually states that the katana and the katar were invented by the dragonborn Arkhosian empire.

I thought this might be an interesting project. Anauli Empire: A long-vanished eladrin civilisation. Arkhosia: A dragonborn empire founded by followers of Bahamut in the arid lands of the south, destroyed by wars with the tiefling empire of Bael Turath. Avaellor: An eladrin city which spends...

Pathfinder 1E Recommend me Some Paizo adventurers

I can't get my head around the mindset that cares whether or not "darkness" in a roleplaying game is "essential" or "just for shock value", but it certainly wouldn't be hard to tone down "The Skinsaw Murders" or "The Hook Mountain Massacre". It would, quite honestly, just be a matter of leaving...
