    Low-magic settings and Core mechanics

Silveras has a point. Flying creatures become far more powerful... which is not a bad thing. The entire point behind low Magic worlds is to either give a greater nod towards realism or to avoid the homicidal mania inducing "every problem has a solution-spell". Even in a...

Half-Caster (Ranger/Paladin) In Low Magic Setting

I know several posters' gut reactions will be "why not just do away with spell casting altogether?". My answer is simple. I am too lazy to be able to come up with enough abilities to even the Ranger and Paladin out with other classes. They still might not be balanced, but that is...

    Granting more feats

I found that in my Low magic games the players both needed the extra firepower and the added flavour. You could probably get by with using the feats from the 3.5 PHB but i think one of the books of feat compilations would add plenty of variety to the game.

2nd Ed Clerical Spell Spheres, Any Rules?

How can I say no to someone from Missouri (I am originally from Owensville, a small town just north of Rolla)? Yes, I would love to see it posted or e-mailed to me. Just to satisfy my curiosity what source books were used? Why did you also include Arcane Spells? What criteria did you...

2nd Ed Clerical Spell Spheres, Any Rules?

I am trying to develop variant or alternate classes for most if not allof the classes presented int he PHB. In the course if the development I have thinking about how to do Clerics. The way I see Clerics in the campaign is as channels for their particular faith's power. Clerics...

    Granting more feats

I did this in a Low Magic world and it worked out well as a replacement for spells ( Bards were the best spell casters). I must warn you that you need a large number of feats for this to really be any good past 10th level. I think I granted Fighters , Rogues and Monks an extra...

Non-Magical Ranger and Bard class variants

Well I do have a Low magic class based onthe Bard posted inthe houserules forum here: http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=78248 He does use spell like abilities and is based around deception and manipulation. I used the Mentat's and the Bene Gesserit sisterhood from...

    GM dislikes certain classes...

I dislike Wizards so much that I only DM low-magic setting anymore. I even went so far as to develop low magic Wizards and non-casting Bards ( thank you Khaalis) which are both posted on the second or third page of the House Rules section here at Enworld. out of the 3.5 PHB...

Dark Fantasy, Low magic, and Low Fantasy Fiction

i am very familiar with HPL and the Lovecraft Mythos. thanks for the exaustive listing guys. I should read the Fafhrd books What about newer writers? like in The past 10 to 15 years? By low magic i mean anything with magic less common or strong than your standard D&D...

Dark Fantasy, Low magic, and Low Fantasy Fiction

I have never been much interested in most fantasy books but I am a fan of Robert E Howard. Tolkien's Middle Earth was what i would consider Low Magic as magic had very little infleuence on most of the storyline. What other books in the Low-Magic or Low Fantasy or Dark...

d20 Weapons Locker vs. Ultramodern Firearms

I mean Rounds as in Caalibre, grains of powder etc., sorry for the confusion. Would you grace us witha write up of a sample weapon that would be easily found in the other two books? Woudl anyone else be willing to give us a sample write up for both Weapon Locker and...

    Balance to resist Trip attempts?

Jessemock, in my above post i said this; You are right, Armour does reduce speed and mobility and is well reflected in D&D but it is a relative reduction. The Armoured Knight is slower than the Cloaked bandit but the Knight is not "slow" by any means nor is he...

d20 Weapons Locker vs. Ultramodern Firearms

I have neither looked at these books nor do i play any modern games *yet* Between Weapon's locker, Ultra Modern Firearms and Big Bang (Dana's book), do any of them differentiate between: 1. rounds used? 2. recoil systems? 3. popularity ( when the firearm in question were popular...

[Green Ronin] Medieval Player's Manual Preview Now Available!

I noticed the Arcane and Divine classes but what of other classes? We have 3 "religious" classes and I assume "supporting PRCs" refers to the fact that they support the preceding "religious" classes? How many levels for each class? Would this be suitable for a low-magic world...

The Garrote: Killing your Opponents Softly

The Garrote has had a long history in the works of adventure writers, whether as the weapon of choice for the insidious Thuggee cult (from whose name we get the term "thug") and their knotted strangle cords, or mafia hit-men who strike from the shadows with little more than piano wire...
