D&D (2024) What do you expect/hope to see in future playtest packets? (+)

Pair that with a not great AC and not great HP. and the unarmed style fighter can compare very well.

and the dagger wielder can throw it. With one feat, you take your unarmed strike to 1d6 or 1d8 and that's as high as the 5e monk gets through half the level progression and it's still only as good as light melee weapons.

D&D (2024) What do you expect/hope to see in future playtest packets? (+)

Yes, but the same monk could do that by just wielding two daggers. The Martial arts ability doesn't add much. If he spends a Ki point, he can do another strike, but the rogue can do a second 1d4 attack as well just by dual wielding and potentially sneak attack with one of them.

D&D (2024) What do you expect/hope to see in future playtest packets? (+)

A lot better. Tried to play it. a d4 at 1st in melee only is less than having proficiency with a dagger. Stunning strike DC depends on a stat that is not usually your top one and it's save or suck. The rogue can dash or disengage as a bonus action without spending Ki Points. The Open Hand is the...

D&D (2024) What do you expect/hope to see in future playtest packets? (+)

I don't necessarily expect to get what I hope for, but I hope to geta couple of simple things. 1. That they stop with the un-thematic and USELESS 10 minute restrictions on things like flight and Goliaths using large size. Goliaths aren't shapeshifters and if you have wings you can fly. It...

    D&D (2024) I like the new Warlock

I played a warlock to 19th level. Answering the survey, I was mainly positive. I don't mind the warlock not having a separate spell mechanic from everyone else, but I thought that Mystic Arcanum should just be a feature and not a tax on Invocations, and I feel it still needs the added Invocation...

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I just completed the playtest survey. I mostly like the fighter but I did not like the Action Surge and other needless Nerfs in the play test. I like indomitiable but I thought it would be good to just make Unconquerable an auto success. The Martial Masteries help but I thought they should...

D&D (2024) How to balance the shield spell?

My take is that it doesn't need a change. Shield is a strong spell choice, but high AC does not break the game. Other characters already have access to high AC without shield at fairly low levels. There are attacks that don't care what your AC is and no one has limitless reactions or 1st level...

    D&D (2024) New Survey Results | Druid & Paladin | Unearthed Arcana | D&D

I think they're doable, but I think simple language like, 'you can use the climb speed and any special senses and attacks of the beast' will do. It doesn't have to be a hundred different options. That can be open to the people that want to do it that way, and there could be a small number of...

D&D (2024) What spells should be dropped?

Some spells need an edit like Conjure (anything) for the sake of play and pace. I don't think any need to be outright removed from availability, better to make spells that are useless and that few if any games ever see in use get help. Find Traps, True Strike, and so on.

D&D (2024) How quickly should WOTC add new classes?

I went with other because I don't know that the game really needs more base classes at all. They should focus on fixing the classes that need it. The Artificer, Ranger and Monk have some bad (read not useful features) and some subclasses that are flatly bad in design and in play. WotC should fix...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Yes, it would. It also potentially gives the playtest Warlock access to spells that the 5e Warlock wouldn't have.

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

In 5E Mystic Arcanum comes at 11th level. In the playtest, Mystic Arcanum is a feat and you can begin using it as early as 5th.

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Yes, but you also, in this play test, get access to mystic Arcanum sooner. Wizard is still the king for spell selection and Wizard is a full caster. You can also have an Intelligence based Warlock and potentially Multi-class with Wizard.

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

I played a warlock in 5E to 19th level and I don't see anything in the playtest that I outright hate. Removing Pact Magic and using the same system as other half casters is a bit disappointing because you lose the option to have all your spells be in the higher level slot. Perhaps they could...

    D&D 5E Swashbuckler / Hexblade help

I played a Hexblade to 19th level ending that campaign last year. I've also played a multi-class rogue a little. My experience is that you want one or the other. There's less sneak attack and less spells in an already slow progression if you do this. I recommend doing Swashbuckler and if you...

D&D 5E Race choice for pure Hexblade build

I played a Hexblade, Variant Human to 19th level. Most rounds I only did melee attacks if I had advantage and instead of the extra attack from Thirsting Blade, used Greenflame Blade and Eldritch Smite if I had a slot to use. At the point where I got Bracers of Illusion, I got two attacks with my...

    D&D (2024) It's not worth it/we are out of luck/time

In the way that the sum of the revisions together amount to rebuilding the game. If all classes are redone, races (or lineages) are redone, backgrounds are redone and and if monsters and items are redone, and only the new way is legal in 'official events'.

    D&D (2024) It's not worth it/we are out of luck/time

I'm sure you're right. And yes, the community will no doubt come to a consensus name, but the kind of sweeping changes that are being play tested suggest that in reality, it's a new edition, not just a revision of 5E.

    D&D (2024) It's not worth it/we are out of luck/time

If it's still 5e, and not a new edition, then they need a name to refer to the revised rules specifically. Otherwise games will be organized and the DM will say it's 5e, and everyone will ask 'which one?' R5E? 2014, 2024? It will need a consistent label for the sake of quality of games and the...
