Default setting: should we really have one?

Can you imagine the outcry if D&D wasn't playable with the three core books, and you instead needed to buy a campaign sourcebook as well? The grogs would have a field day with that.

D&D 5E Can 5E bring the wonder and mystery back to Magic Items?

What 3e did right in this area: Many magic items were very powerful, which made them feel good to own. What 3e did wrong: Many of the magic items became "standard equipment" which everyone ended up wearing, because they shored up terrible areas of rules deficiency. Ring of Freedom of Movement...

Zombies that need to stay dead. DEAD.

It's about time they got rid of +x weapons and armour. Each edition seems to get an "inherent bonuses" option each time, but I'd like to see it be standard instead of something I have to track and add on at appropriate levels.

Poll - which classes have you played.

I guess fighter is ahead because it's such a versatile class - it covers so many traditional heroic figures.

    Opt-in or Opt-out?

If they go "opt-in" on basically every element like some are suggesting, it'll probably be an absolute nightmare to balance the different rules subsystems.

    Alignment Issues!

Hope they leave it out of this one entirely. You don't need a box to tell you how to play or (as we see so many unfortunate times) to excuse anti-social play with "but it's how my character would react - look at my alignment!" Of course, if they leave unaligned in I can ignore it just as much...

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

I think the best implementation that I'd like to see would be having two or three "heavy-duty" spells that have a real punch, but a good variety of general purpose magic - a low-powered magic missile, and a bunch of cantrips. Thus you can do magic stuff all day long without resorting to...

    D&D 5E Hopes for the 5E Fighter

Didn't bother reading past that in your post because you obviously know nothing. Gort has received an infraction and been booted from this thread. No klaatu barada nikto for you. Plane Sailing, ENworld admin

    Number of PHBs and DMGs

The PHB/DMG/MM model still makes most sense to me. PHB to the players, DM uses the DMG to plan adventures, and the MM when he runs them.

Same rules or different Rules (PC vs NPC)

That seems like the best of all worlds. I want monsters I can just chuck at a party for a quick and dirty combat encounter about 99% of the time, but it'd be nice to build an iconic NPC every once in a while.

    D&D 5E I am perfectly fine with WoTC producing D&D 5th Edition

Oh. I see. You are one of those posters. The ones who sign their posts. In 2012.

D&D 3E/3.5 Things from 3e (inc PF) not done well

Martial characters who simply cannot keep up with spellcasters. Spells that negate adventures. (EG - "We must make a great journey!" Teleport) Monsters don't work without serious rewriting to fit your party once you get to a certain level. Ridiculous numbers of buffing spells with massive...

    D&D 5E Hopes for the 5E Fighter

Hell no. The 3rd ed fighter is complete rubbish compared to the 4th ed one. The 4th ed fighter can heal himself. The 4th ed fighter can very effectively prevent enemies ignoring him, and punish them if they do. The 4th ed fighter can actually keep up with spellcasters in a fight. The 3rd ed...

    20 vs 18

You don't get the secondary effects if you miss.

    D&D 5E I am perfectly fine with WoTC producing D&D 5th Edition

If you're desperate to keep that piddlingly small element of the game, let's just write your strength mod as 4.5 with the understanding that we always round down.

    20 vs 18

Hell, I reckon pretty much any class makes sense to take a 20 in the primary stat. Accuracy and damage are vital for everybody outside of some extreme corner cases.

    D&D 5E I am perfectly fine with WoTC producing D&D 5th Edition

I must say, I like what they're doing with 4e with the Essentials line, and would like to see 5th ed do more of that. I still have plenty of beefs with 4e as it stands however, and I'd like to see them do these things in 5th: 1. Removal of daily resources - I want the one-encounter adventuring...

    Are minions dangerous enough?

I made minions immune to non-attack-roll-requiring damage. So auras and other auto-damage effects don't get them. I also like to use the minions that do something when they die, like an automatic ten damage to everyone next to them - that way even if they don't get a go they can contribute to...

    Do YOU nod to "realism"?

Yeah, I must say that the powers system does kinda pigeonhole people. It's hard enough for most players to keep their at-wills, choice of a half-dozen encounter powers and a half-dozen daily powers AND their magic item powers straight in their heads before they even start thinking about what...

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

4e isn't perfect, but dear god, DMing 4e at high levels was an absolute breeze compared to earlier editions. Actual class balance! Enemies I can use straight out of the book! Woo!
