My Eternal Search for a Particular Campaign/Setting/Game

I've also been thinking about exploring some identity issues in D&D, but I don't know if I like queer theory for this. For one thing, it seems to go against one of the fundamental aspects of gaming: Players adopt the identity of a character. I'm a big fan of Stargate SG-1. One of the things...

Coolest IMDB resume EVAH? (Megatron, Raiders, Mars Attacks! and... Diana Ross?)

Wow, this guy IS amazing. Although, I did lose lots of respect when I saw this: "Dungeons & Dragons" (1983/I) TV Series (voice) .... Uni" *shudder* Uni's shrill squeals still haunt me to this very day... Spider

    My Wonderful Silly Players

Something like the following took place in our RttToEE campaign: Fighter: This is an evil place! The whole town is corrupted. What should we do? Mage: Let's burn it down! Priest: No, let us cleanse this village. Mage <sheepishly>: ... Fire cleanses. Spider

Power Attack - What is "2 for 1"?

There are some situations where I can see it getting out of hand. Because it's an easy way to add extra damage that multiplies on a crit, the ability to power attack on a spirited charge with your lance gets pretty messy. But it's certainly not so powerful that a skilled DM can't still make...

Batman Fans: How would you design him in DND 3.5?

Yeah, I kinda agree. On the other hand, Batman was all about the gear. And the only way to sufficiently reflect "those wonderful toys" in a fantasy setting is with magic. Nareau

    the decline of reality TV

The only reality TV show I ever watched was "Joe Schmoe". It was hilarious. And it really appealed to my cruel streak. Not to wax political here...but I have a reality TV show I'd love to pitch: Race for the Whitehouse! The basic idea is to take all the presidential candidates (maybe 10...

Batman Fans: How would you design him in DND 3.5?

I agree with Mr. Outsidevoice on the levels. I think Batman should be 20th level, to reflect that he's a superhero. And probably 18 Str, 18 Dex, 20 Con, 20 Int, 16 Wis, 16 Cha. He's gotta have the monk levels for the unarmed combat and the wisdom bonus to armor. Rogue for the skill points...

Stargate SG-1 Season 7 is out!

Am I really the only one who's giddy about this? Sigh. I'm such a lonely geek. :) Nareau

What has gaming done for you?

Oh, I can just imagine if you had said, "Druids are a specialty class of priests, who have access to the Animal and Nature spheres." Heh. Gaming has provided me with an outlet to explore many themes and situations safely. I've been a vampire, had children, been shot, fought ninja zombies...

how do you convert gif/bmp files to icon files?

I would use IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com Open you image, hit ctrl-r to resize your image (you want 32x32 pixels, I believe), and save as an ICO file. Spider

    Dungeon #110

I like the "wasps laid eggs in the townspeople" idea. What if the killer bees are all awakened? If they were pretty much good creatures in a bad situation, they would be much more sympathetic (and would thusly be less likely to be killed). Nareau

    Riddle/problem to solve

I don't really like riddles in gaming. They tend to either be obvious or impossible, and in neither case is that fun. They also tend to stick out like a sore thumb. Furthermore, having failure=death is a terrible idea. Perhaps these aren't just statues--they're ancient sages who sacrificed...

The coolest campaign idea (you never used)

Another thread reminded me of another NPC I never got to expound upon: Evil mutant doppelganger child borne of 2 druids who mated while wildshaped. Of course, this BBEG was the child of one of the male PC's, who never even knew of his existence... Spider

    Question on Awakened Animals

It really depends on how Rat-Bastard you want to be about it. I could see some kind of great NPC coming out of "Awakened wolf, who's druid companion is long-dead, gives birth to a litter of idiot-dogs. She dispairs ever having learned the secrets of humanity, and longs for the simplicity of a...

The coolest campaign idea (you never used)

I have this great idea for a campaign, where everyone is actually descendents of an ancient, space-faring race... Oh, wait. Nevermind. :) I've been wanting to run a "cop drama" for a long time. Whether it's 3.5 "PC's are part of the city militia" or it's d20 Modern actual cops, I'd love to...

Fellow Player drives the group mad (Rant)

I think it's important to avoid with engaging someone like this about their issues. It's not a matter of "you're not justified feeling the way you do," so it would be pointless to argue about it. If I were you, I think I'd probably respond to one of these long emails. I'd say, "Hey, I'm sorry...

Can't Find Trees- Damn Forest. Secret of Good DM'ing?

Not that I'm just playing Devil's Advocate or anything... Railroad your players. Yep, you heard me. Tell them what to do, and make sure they do it. Don't give them a bunch of "options" or "choices". DM's don't have time to try and predict every crazy little thing the PC's might want to do...

    Weapons as special effects

OK, I already thought you were cool for coming up with this very elegant combat scheme. But your use of "schrodinger" as a verb just totally made my day. :) While I really like your system, I have to ask: isn't the fighter already much more deadly with that dagger than the wizard? Imagine a...

    Another TPK - Sigh.

Well, you don't have to be generous to avoid TPK's. My first thought on this was: The ogres track the party back to their camp. They attack. They make sure to keep the whole party alive (subdual damage). Afterwards, they ransack the party's camp, and revive the party members. The very evil...
