Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Still waiting......I think he has been a bit busy lately with his work, to the extent that he hasn't had a lot of time to work on the campaign. Or, it is possible as "Darklone" indicated, perhaps he got scared if he has looked at the thread. Ha ha!! In any event, the backup plan is to simply...

    How many spells/scroll?

I'm confused about this comment. Does this mean that an arcane caster could cast a spell from a scroll when the spell was scribed by a divine caster as long as the spell was on both lists? e.g. bull's strength is on both the cleric and wizard/sorcerer lists, so a wizard could use the spell even...

    Toning the Magic Down

I play in a campaign where there is decidedly less magic available. Here is a brief synopsis of how this works. I can't give away all the campaign secrets since my DM also is a writer, and thus many of his campaign ideas are either copywrited, or he uses/is using for his work. 1. Magic items...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Perhaps. We briefly touched on it yesterday after our gaming session, along with my campaign idea about why I wanted to have a crack at playing it. Suffice to say, he is going to look into it, but my sense of it, is that he won't be allowing it. Actually, I directed him to this thread...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

If the BBEG MyTh was prepared for the PC's would he still be "Sucktacular" or "Craptastic"??? In all seriousness, it is my firm belief that a DM doesn't have to even throw the BBEG's at the PC's. Even extremely "low level" and I use that term loosely monsters can create havoc for a "high...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

By the way, which is worse or better (depending on your perspective): Sucktacular or Craptastic? Sorry, I couldn't resist a little levity on a Friday afternoon. Here's for the Mystic Thurge, otherwise known in some circles as "Mr. Sucktacular" or "Mr. Craptastic"!

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Flavorless? One of the reasons why I want to take it is because I think it can add a lot of flavor to the existing campaign. I think the flavor depends on the campaign itself, and how much a player is into role-playing based on a DM's campaign. For example, in the campaign I'm playing in, the...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Agreed on all points. I do think that the versatility of having a MT is great, even if on pure power, he is a bit weaker than other characters.

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Well, I'm not surprised by your post. A few humble perceptions: 1. As I've indicated, the main reason for playing the Theurge has less to do with pure power, and more to do with the campaign flavor and role-playing. While we do have a fair amount of combat encounters in our campaign (and they...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Darklone, a couple of points about the above 2 posts that you have made. 1. Main reason for me taking the 2nd level fighter is to avoid exp. point penalties. 3rd level cleric, 1st level fighter, 5th level and above wizard=exp. point penalties. 2. I would consider the Eldritch Knight, but...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Probably all right that this character would be reduced to being a supporting character anyway, since we do have the Pure Wizard, Pure Fighter (Tank), and Rogue anyway. What I meant by "leader" was in a sense characters that shine at one particular aspect. e.g. Spellcasting, Combat, etc...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

There have been a couple of first hand accounts, and the consensus so far is that it definitely isn't overpowered. If anything, it may be underpowered. My sense of it is that this class may be good as a supporting character, but don't expect it to be a leader in any way.

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Right. For some reason I thought the Headband provided an inherent bonus. I don't have my books in front of me right now. Thanks Cheers

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Thanks for the good wishes. One other question. Can you stack the inherent bonus (+5, I assume from wishes) with the bonus from a headband of intellect (+6)? I thought that they were both inherent bonuses and thus wouldn't stack?

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Yeah, I've looked at saves for some of the high level bad boys, such as dragons, pit fiends, etc. Not good. Having said that even a maxed out 20th level wizard (assuming a starting INT of 18, and going to 23 plus SF, and GSF, and buffing items) will still only have a DC of I think 30? I could...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Actually, given the "typical" creature you've noted for SR, I actually feel a bit better about my character's potential high level efficacy. I wasn't expecting him to be an "uber-mage" anyway. As for Red Wizard (we don't play the realms) and the Arch-Mage isn't allowed either. I certainly...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

Interesting. Given that we haven't yet ever hit levels past 7, we are all a bit inexperienced at higher level play. I must admit, my biggest concern is save DC's and SR particularly once we start hitting levels 10 and up. So far, at low levels, it hasn't been a huge problem, but that was the...

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

I also thought the Aasimar part might be a problem. I like the abilities, but I think that they weaken you as a spellcaster. Like I'm one to talk, given my character concept!!

What does the evangelist do? Spell caster? Please give me a brief summary so I can put this into context.

Mystic Thurge - Is it broken?

This was so classic!! Can I quote you on this thread to my DM? Along with the response above about building a sample MT at different levels, I think these are the best replies that I have seen yet. One question, however, what levels did your MT have for the 2 NPC's you tried, and what were...
